Southeastern Grocers Provides More Than $368,000 to Help Feed Communities During the Holidays
Southeastern Grocers, LLC (SEG), the parent company of Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie, is reaffirming its longstanding commitment to fighting hunger and supporting the communities it serves by delivering more than $368,000 in combined monetary and product donations as part of its 2025 holiday hunger-relief initiatives. The season of giving effort reflects SEG’s mission to ensure families across the Southeast have access to nutritious food and meaningful support during one of the most challenging times of the year for food-insecure households.
The total holiday impact includes $180,000 in monetary donations raised for Feeding America®, the nation’s largest hunger-relief organization, through SEG’s in-store community donation programs. In addition, SEG contributed more than $188,000 worth of food products to local food pantries through its popular holiday pre-packed donation bag program, helping provide essential pantry staples directly to neighbors in need.
SEG Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Anthony Hucker emphasized the deeper significance of food during the holiday season and the responsibility retailers have to support the communities they serve.
“During this time of year, food represents comfort, connection and the foundation of many special family traditions,” Hucker said. “Yet, for many neighbors facing food insecurity, the holiday season becomes even more challenging. We are proud once again to join hands with our longtime partner, Feeding America, to ensure the holidays are filled with joy, dignity and the sense of belonging every family deserves. Together, we’re doing more than filling plates – we are strengthening communities, creating hope and showing that small acts of kindness can have a truly profound impact in the lives of our neighbors.”
Gratitude Month Sparks Generosity
SEG’s holiday hunger-relief efforts officially launched in November during Gratitude Month, a companywide initiative designed to inspire acts of kindness and community engagement. The spirit of giving extended into December, with customers and associates rallying together to support Feeding America and its extensive network of local partner food banks.
The monetary donations were driven by SEG’s in-store community donation programs, which allowed shoppers to contribute $1, $5 or round up their total at checkout. These small, voluntary contributions quickly added up, demonstrating how collective action can generate meaningful results. Every dollar donated helps Feeding America provide meals, support food distribution networks, and expand programs designed to address hunger at its root.
According to Feeding America, more than 47 million people in the United States experience food insecurity, including millions of children, seniors, and working families. The need is often heightened during the holiday season, when household expenses increase and food pantries face higher demand.
SEG’s efforts not only help meet immediate needs but also strengthen long-term hunger-relief infrastructure within the communities where Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie operate.
“Give a Little, Feed a Lot” Program Delivers Local Impact
In addition to financial donations, customers at select Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie locations participated in SEG’s “Give a Little, Feed a Lot” pre-packed donation bag program. Through this initiative, shoppers could purchase bags filled with essential nonperishable food items, which were then donated directly to nearby food pantries.
The program resulted in more than $188,000 worth of food donations, ensuring that local organizations had the supplies needed to serve families during the holidays. By sourcing donations directly through its stores, SEG was able to streamline distribution, reduce logistical barriers, and deliver food where it was needed most.
The focus on local food pantries reflects SEG’s belief that hunger relief is most effective when support stays close to home, empowering community partners who understand the specific needs of their neighbors.
Additional Support Through SEG Gives Foundation
SEG’s charitable arm, the SEG Gives Foundation, further amplified the company’s holiday impact. In November, the foundation donated $100,000 to Feeding America, a contribution estimated to help provide more than one million meals to individuals and families experiencing hunger.
Ahead of Thanksgiving, the foundation also distributed more than 7,000 turkeys and holiday side items directly to families in need, helping ensure that more households could enjoy a traditional holiday meal. These direct food distributions complemented SEG’s in-store programs by addressing immediate holiday needs while reinforcing the company’s broader mission of nourishment and care.
Making the Holidays Easier for Customers
Alongside its charitable efforts, SEG is also focused on making the holiday season more accessible and stress-free for its customers. Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie are offering a Holiday Meal Deal through New Year’s Day, providing a convenient and affordable option for families looking to enjoy a traditional holiday feast without the time and expense of preparing everything from scratch.
Priced at $39.99, the ready-to-heat-and-serve deli meal includes a choice of Dietz & Watson carver ham or turkey, along with four classic sides from Reser’s, such as cornbread stuffing, homestyle stuffing, green bean casserole, mashed sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes and homestyle gravy. The meal also includes a 12-count package of King’s Hawaiian rolls, rounding out a complete holiday spread designed to serve families with ease.
The Holiday Meal Deal reflects SEG’s broader commitment to value, convenience, and quality—particularly during times when budgets are tight and schedules are full.
Holiday Store Hours Announced
To allow associates time to celebrate with their families, SEG announced adjusted holiday store hours across its banners. All Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie grocery and liquor stores will close at 9 p.m. on Christmas Eve and remain closed on Christmas Day, reopening for normal business hours on Friday, Dec. 26.
On New Year’s Eve, stores will operate until 10 p.m. or their regular closing time if earlier, and will resume normal operating hours on Thursday, Jan. 1.
A Legacy of Giving Back
SEG’s holiday hunger-relief initiatives are part of a broader legacy of community support that extends far beyond the holiday season. Through ongoing partnerships, associate volunteerism, and customer-driven programs, the company continues to invest in solutions that empower, feed, and enrich the communities it serves.
As the holiday season continues, Southeastern Grocers remains committed to ensuring that families across its footprint experience the warmth, nourishment, and hope that define this special time of year. By combining corporate leadership, community partnerships, and customer generosity, SEG is helping make a lasting difference—one meal, one family, and one act of kindness at a time.
