Livestock Acceleronix, iBOI and Quectel Launch Next-Generation GPS Cattle Ear Tag with eSIM and IoT Integration to Enable Livestock Credit

Acceleronix, iBOI and Quectel have announced a new generation of GPS-enabled cattle ear tags at Futurecom 2026, bringing together real-time animal tracking, herd management, livestock health monitoring and IoT connectivity in a single solution. Designed initially for the Brazilian livestock market, the solution connects individual animal data with broader herd management operations and creates new possibilities for agricultural financing, including the use of livestock as collateral in credit operations.

The collaboration combines technologies and capabilities from three companies that traditionally address different parts of the livestock and IoT value chain. Quectel is responsible for the design and manufacturing of the GPS-enabled cattle ear tag, Acceleronix provides eSIM connectivity and device lifecycle management, while iBOI integrates the resulting data into its herd and animal health management platform.

The companies say the solution has been developed around the practical requirements of modern Brazilian cattle farming, where large herds, extensive grazing areas and geographically dispersed operations make continuous monitoring difficult. At the same time, the architecture is designed with international scalability in mind, creating a platform that could support livestock operations in other markets.

Connecting Individual Animals to Herd-Level Management

At the center of the solution is a compact GPS cattle ear tag designed to provide continuous visibility into an animal’s location, movement and selected health-related indicators. The device combines GPS positioning with a temperature sensor, step counter and RFID functionality, giving farmers access to information that can help them understand both individual animals and overall herd performance.

Rather than treating animal location as an isolated tracking function, iBOI incorporates the data into its broader herd and animal health management platform. The system provides real-time visibility into animal inventories and enables farmers to manage entire lots, including entries and exits, transfers between paddocks and pastures, movement history and the amount of time animals spend in specific areas.

The platform also consolidates livestock performance information such as herd statements in arrobas, weight progression, average daily gain (ADG), body condition score and other herd performance and health indicators. By combining location, movement and production data, the solution is intended to give farmers a more comprehensive picture of what is happening across their operations.

This individual-to-herd approach is particularly important for large-scale livestock producers. Instead of relying exclusively on manual inspections or periodic updates, farmers can receive information continuously and identify animals or groups that may require attention.

Designed for the Demands of Livestock Operations

Developing a GPS-enabled ear tag for cattle presents a different set of challenges from many conventional IoT tracking applications. The device needs to be small and lightweight enough for an animal to wear, while also providing reliable positioning and cellular communication. At the same time, it must operate for long periods in outdoor environments where regular maintenance or battery replacement may be impractical.

Quectel approached the project as a turnkey design and manufacturing initiative, drawing on its experience in cellular connectivity and GNSS technologies. The resulting device integrates positioning, communications and sensors into a compact form factor intended for demanding livestock environments.

“A GPS ear tag requires a careful trade-off between size, positioning, cellular performance and battery life,” said Ricardo Simon, Regional Sales Director at Quectel. “Our turnkey design and manufacturing capabilities bring those elements together in an IoT device built for demanding field conditions.”

Power efficiency is particularly important for a livestock tracking device. The longer the battery can operate without intervention, the less frequently farmers need to access or replace the equipment. To help address this requirement, the device uses Lightweight M2M (LwM2M) for communication, monitoring and remote device management over the cellular network.

LwM2M is designed for resource-constrained IoT devices and can help minimize unnecessary data transmission while maintaining visibility into the status of connected equipment. For the cattle ear tag, this enables operators to monitor important information such as device health, connectivity and battery status without requiring physical access to every device in the field.

Connectivity From Production to Deployment

Acceleronix provides the connectivity layer for the solution through eSIM technology, supporting the device from production and integration through initial field deployment. The company also provides device lifecycle management through its ACX Core platform.

This approach allows connectivity to be considered from the earliest stages of the product lifecycle rather than being added only after the device reaches the farm. For an IoT product expected to operate for years and potentially across different cellular environments, lifecycle management can be an important part of maintaining reliable service.

ACX Core provides IoT middleware and device management capabilities while being designed to operate independently of the underlying connectivity provider. This gives iBOI a way to manage its connected device fleet without having to build and maintain all of the underlying infrastructure itself.

“Connectivity has to be planned for the full life of a device, and that starts on the production line,” said Artur Couto, Head of Sales LATAM at Acceleronix. “We provide eSIM-based connectivity from production through initial deployment, while ACX Core gives iBOI the middleware and device management needed to run its fleet at scale, regardless of which cellular network it runs on.”

Turning Location Data Into Actionable Farm Intelligence

A major part of the solution is the integration between iBOI’s SaaS platform and ACX Core through standard platform interfaces. This integration allows raw location and device information to be transformed into tools that livestock managers can use in their day-to-day operations.

One example is the creation of virtual fences. Farmers can define management areas digitally and monitor how animals are distributed across those areas. If an animal leaves a defined perimeter, the platform can generate alerts for potential escapes, breakouts or unauthorized movements.

The system can also provide alerts related to lack of movement, abnormal behavior, unusual location patterns and changes in temperature. These notifications are designed to help farmers identify situations that may require investigation without having to continuously monitor every animal manually.

For large cattle operations, this type of automated alerting can help shift livestock management from periodic observation toward more continuous, data-driven monitoring. Instead of simply recording where animals have been, the platform can help identify situations that may require immediate attention.

Supporting Livestock Financing and Collateral Management

The technology also has implications beyond farm management. Because the platform creates a more detailed and continuously updated view of individual animals and herds, iBOI sees an opportunity to apply the system to agricultural credit operations.

Livestock is commonly used as an economic asset, and the ability to monitor animals individually can provide financial institutions with additional visibility when cattle are used as collateral. By tracking the animals and maintaining information about their location and status, the solution can support processes in which banks need to monitor collateral remotely.

“Livestock farmers need to know how many animals they have, where they are, how they are developing and which need attention. iBOI brings this information together in a herd and animal health management platform, with virtual fences and alerts that support daily farm routines. Our methodology also extends this monitoring to credit operations, allowing banks to follow the animals used as collateral,” said Felippe Antonelle, Executive Vice President at iBOI.

This creates a connection between livestock technology and financial services, potentially making animal monitoring relevant not only to farmers and farm managers but also to lenders and other participants in the agricultural value chain.

A Scalable Model for Connected Agriculture

The partnership between Quectel, Acceleronix and iBOI illustrates how connected agriculture increasingly depends on the integration of hardware, connectivity, device management and application-level intelligence.

Quectel contributes the physical tracking device and its expertise in cellular and GNSS technologies. Acceleronix provides connectivity and the infrastructure required to manage connected devices throughout their lifecycle. iBOI adds the livestock-specific software, operational workflows and analytical capabilities needed to turn device data into practical information for farmers.

By combining these layers, the companies aim to provide an end-to-end solution rather than a standalone tracking product. The approach is particularly suited to large-scale livestock operations, where managing thousands of connected devices and animals requires automation and centralized visibility.

Although the solution has been developed with the realities of Brazilian cattle farming in mind, the companies intend for the underlying architecture to support international expansion. As livestock producers worldwide adopt precision agriculture and connected farm technologies, systems that can combine animal tracking, health information, herd management and remote monitoring may become increasingly important.

Visitors to Futurecom 2026 can see the solution in action at the Quectel stand, where the companies are demonstrating the technology and providing an opportunity to meet the teams involved in its development.

The new GPS cattle ear tag represents a broader shift in livestock management: from periodic, manual monitoring toward connected, real-time visibility of individual animals and entire herds. By combining positioning, sensors, cellular connectivity, device management and specialized livestock software, Acceleronix, iBOI and Quectel are positioning the solution as an integrated technology platform for the next generation of connected cattle farming.
