Badger Meter has released its 2023 Sustainability Report, emphasizing its dedication to enhancing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) efforts. “At Badger Meter, our growth strategy aligns with sustainability, enabling our customers to achieve greater efficiency, resilience, and sustainability in their water operations. In 2023, we demonstrated the connection between robust financial and sustainability performance, achieving record sales and earnings while reducing Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions and water intensity,” stated Kenneth C. Bockhorst, Chairman, President, and CEO.
The report centers on four strategic pillars – Governance, Products, Operations, and People – guiding Badger Meter’s sustainability initiatives. Key highlights include:
- Expansion of solutions, both organic and acquisition-driven, aimed at reducing customer water and energy usage.
- An 18% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions intensity year-over-year, with a 44% reduction from the 2020 baseline.
- A 9% decrease in water usage, along with a 27% reduction in water intensity.
- Progress toward a zero-safety goal, with a 32% reduction in the total case incident rate (TCIR).
- Enhanced employee engagement scores, with 93% participation in the third annual global survey.
- Initiation of mental health-focused programs as part of a holistic wellness approach.
Bockhorst added, “We are committed to integrating ESG principles into our business strategies and practices through continuous improvement, which is fundamental to how Badger Meter sets strategy, manages key business processes, and evaluates progress.”
As in previous years, the Badger Meter sustainability report aligns with established frameworks such as the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), and the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD).
