DoorDash Launches New Products to Boost Off-Peak Demand

Today, DoorDash unveiled a suite of products designed to help restaurants drive off-peak demand and achieve sustainable growth. These innovative products enable restaurants to optimize operations and maximize revenue while offering consumers affordable on-demand meal options.

Restaurants often experience a drop in orders during certain times of the day. In response to feedback from our restaurant partners seeking ways to better utilize their kitchens and staff, attract more customers, and boost off-peak demand, DoorDash developed this new suite of products. According to DoorDash data, dinner orders are twice as high as lunch orders for restaurants, with another dip in orders between 2pm and 5pm.

“We understand the importance of supporting our restaurant partners throughout the day. These new products not only help increase restaurant traffic during slower hours but also provide customers with more options and savings,” said Vaibhav Goel, Director of Product Management at DoorDash. “The introduction of our Lunch Specials and Happy Hour promotional offers is an exciting milestone for DoorDash as we continue to meet the evolving needs of busy consumers and provide restaurants with valuable tools to reach new customers and enhance their bottom line.”

To attract customers during quieter times, restaurants can offer special deals and promotions, choosing to discount either their entire menu or select items.

For Lunch Specials, restaurants can choose specific items to discount between 11am and 2pm for customers seeking a quick lunch.

To address the 2pm-5pm lull, restaurants can schedule Happy Hour discounts, encouraging consumers to enjoy a mid-afternoon treat.

“I love working with special promotions, and DoorDash has been a fantastic partner in boosting our happy hour business through this new program,” said Clinton Gray III, Co-Founder and Chief Brand Officer at Slim & Husky’s. “The revenue generated during these hours helps balance our labor costs and keeps our team members engaged during typically slow periods. It’s an excellent strategy for community-based businesses aiming to attract new customers and increase revenue week after week.”
