Pacific Seafood and Trident Seafoods have officially announced the successful completion of Pacific Seafood’s acquisition of Trident’s Kodiak, Alaska, processing operations. This strategic transaction includes three prominent processing facilities—Star of Kodiak, Alkod, and Kodiak Near Island—along with the Plaza bunkhouse apartments used for team member housing. Importantly, Trident’s Kodiak team members will remain with Pacific Seafood, ensuring a smooth transition and stability for both the workforce and the local community.
“Kodiak is home to some of the most abundant and sustainable fisheries in the world, and we are honored to partner with our new, very talented team members, the fleet, and the community to unlock new opportunities for this region,” said Ashton Meier, Pacific Seafood’s Vice President of Processing, who will oversee the combined operations. “With Pacific Seafood’s vertical integration, global market access, and value-added capabilities, we are ready to deliver unmatched value and stability for Kodiak’s hardworking fishermen and our customers worldwide.”
Pacific Seafood’s extensive U.S. distribution network includes facilities across the country, a dedicated transportation team with a fleet of more than 200 trucks, and an air freight division. This acquisition significantly bolsters Pacific Seafood’s ability to provide customers with a comprehensive supply of wild whitefish and other species from Alaska, offering direct access to these premium resources. The expanded capacity also strengthens the company’s ability to support its fishing partners and meet the growing demand for high-quality seafood in domestic and international markets.
Ashton Meier is actively collaborating with the local team and fleet to ensure a seamless start to the upcoming cod and pollock seasons. With the enhanced operational capacity, Pacific Seafood is better positioned to serve its valued fishing partners operating in the Gulf of Alaska and West Coast fisheries. By integrating Trident’s Kodiak operations into its portfolio, Pacific Seafood aims to reinforce its commitment to delivering sustainable, high-quality seafood products while contributing to the prosperity of the Kodiak community.
This acquisition underscores Pacific Seafood’s dedication to its mission of providing the healthiest protein on the planet. With its vertically integrated approach, Pacific Seafood manages every aspect of the seafood supply chain—from harvesting and processing to distribution and marketing. This model not only ensures quality and consistency but also promotes sustainable practices that safeguard the health of marine ecosystems for future generations.
Founded in 1941, Pacific Seafood started as a small, independent local retailer in Portland, Oregon. It was established by Frank Dulcich Sr. and his son Dominic, whose vision was to bring fresh, high-quality seafood from the Oregon coast to local families. Over the decades, the company has grown exponentially under the leadership of third-generation President and CEO Frank Dulcich. Today, Pacific Seafood is a family-owned and operated enterprise with over 40 facilities across the U.S. and Canada, employing more than 3,000 team members and distributing products worldwide.
Pacific Seafood’s commitment to sustainability is at the core of its operations. The company has invested heavily in innovative practices and technologies to ensure responsible fishing and processing methods. This includes participating in fishery improvement projects, obtaining certifications from recognized sustainability organizations, and adhering to rigorous environmental standards. By prioritizing sustainability, Pacific Seafood not only protects marine biodiversity but also supports the long-term viability of fishing communities like Kodiak.
For Trident Seafoods, this divestment aligns with its strategic focus on other core areas of its business. Trident remains one of the largest seafood companies in the U.S., renowned for its extensive portfolio of wild-caught and value-added seafood products. The sale of its Kodiak operations to Pacific Seafood allows Trident to reallocate resources and continue driving innovation in other key segments of the seafood industry.
The Kodiak community, known for its strong ties to the fishing industry, stands to benefit significantly from this acquisition. Pacific Seafood’s investment in the region demonstrates its commitment to fostering economic growth, providing stable employment opportunities, and supporting the local fleet. By retaining Trident’s existing team members and infrastructure, Pacific Seafood ensures that the transition is seamless and that the operations continue to thrive under new ownership.
Looking ahead, Pacific Seafood is poised to leverage its expanded capabilities to enhance the seafood supply chain further. With a strong foundation of sustainability, innovation, and community engagement, the company is well-positioned to meet the evolving needs of customers and stakeholders while contributing to the long-term success of Kodiak’s fisheries.
This acquisition marks a significant milestone in Pacific Seafood’s history, reflecting its ongoing commitment to excellence, sustainability, and growth. As the company integrates Trident’s Kodiak operations, it continues to uphold its mission of providing the finest seafood products while supporting the communities and ecosystems that depend on this vital industry.
