Agriculture’s Next Generation Pivot Bio Opens Nominations for 15 Under 20 Fields of Promise
Pivot Bio, a leading agricultural technology company, has announced the opening of nominations for its 15 Under 20 Fields of Promise Honors, a new recognition program designed to celebrate young people whose ideas, leadership and actions are helping shape the future of agriculture, food, science and rural communities.
The program recognizes individuals between the ages of 13 and 20 who are already making meaningful contributions to the agricultural sector and the communities connected to it. Through their scientific work, entrepreneurial ideas, technological innovations, commitment to farmers, conservation efforts and community involvement, these young leaders are demonstrating that the future of agriculture is being built by a diverse generation with new perspectives and a willingness to take action.
The inaugural Fields of Promise Honors class will consist of 15 Fellows, selected for the ideas, initiative and leadership they demonstrate through their work and activities. The program is being launched as part of Pivot Bio’s 15th anniversary and reflects the company’s focus on recognizing emerging talent while highlighting the many different ways young people can contribute to agriculture.
Rather than focusing exclusively on traditional achievements or academic credentials, Fields of Promise is intended to recognize individuals who are actively turning their curiosity and ideas into action. Nominees can come from a wide range of backgrounds and may be involved in agriculture directly or contribute to the sector through science, technology, education, conservation, entrepreneurship or community service.
“There is no single path to making a difference in agriculture and that is exactly what Fields of Promise is designed to celebrate,” said Chris Abbott, CEO of Pivot Bio. “We want to recognize the young scientists, farmers, entrepreneurs, students, volunteers and problem-solvers who are already taking action and give their hard work and dedication a bigger platform. At a time when agriculture needs new ideas and new perspectives, investing in their potential is an investment in what comes next.”
Celebrating a Broad Definition of Agricultural Leadership
Agriculture is increasingly connected to developments in fields such as biotechnology, data science, engineering, environmental conservation, food production and rural economic development. The Fields of Promise Honors program aims to reflect this broad landscape by recognizing young people who are contributing in different ways.
Potential nominees could include young scientists conducting research, students developing agricultural technologies, beginning farmers experimenting with new approaches, entrepreneurs creating solutions for producers, or young volunteers working to strengthen rural communities.
Other nominees may be involved in conservation initiatives, food-related projects, educational programs or efforts designed to improve opportunities for people living and working in rural areas. The program is intentionally broad so that young people with different experiences and interests can be recognized for their contributions.
By emphasizing contribution over credentials, Pivot Bio hopes to expand the traditional understanding of agricultural leadership. The initiative is also intended to demonstrate that there are numerous career paths and opportunities available to young people interested in agriculture and related industries.
Who Can Be Nominated?
Nominations are open to individuals who are between 13 and 20 years old at the time of nomination. To qualify for consideration, the work, achievement or impact for which a person is nominated must have occurred during the previous 12 months.
The criteria are designed to place the focus on recent action and measurable or meaningful contributions rather than simply on a nominee’s academic background, awards or formal qualifications.
This approach allows the program to recognize young people who may already be making a difference but who have not necessarily followed a traditional path into agriculture. A student developing an innovative idea, a young farmer introducing a new practice, a volunteer supporting a rural initiative or an aspiring scientist exploring an agricultural challenge could all represent the type of emerging leader the program seeks to highlight.
The initiative also seeks to encourage young people from different backgrounds to see themselves as part of agriculture’s future. By showcasing a range of experiences and contributions, Fields of Promise aims to provide a broader picture of what participation and leadership in agriculture can look like.

15 Fellows to Form Inaugural Class
Fifteen individuals will ultimately be selected as the inaugural Fields of Promise Fellows. Together, the Fellows will represent a cross-section of the next generation of agricultural leaders.
The cohort is intended to bring together young people with different interests, experiences and areas of expertise. While their individual projects and goals may vary considerably, they will share a common interest in creating positive change within agriculture, food systems, science or rural communities.
The cohort concept is designed to provide more than individual recognition. Bringing the Fellows together can create opportunities for them to learn from one another, exchange ideas and build relationships with peers who are working toward different goals across the agricultural landscape.
The program therefore places an emphasis on both celebrating current accomplishments and creating a platform for continued development. Recognition can help introduce these emerging leaders and their work to a wider audience while encouraging them to continue pursuing ideas that could contribute to agriculture in the years ahead.
Fellows Can Extend Their Impact Through Nonprofit Donations
Each selected Fields of Promise Fellow will also have the opportunity to designate an eligible nonprofit organization to receive a donation from Pivot Bio.
The donation component gives Fellows an opportunity to extend the impact of their recognition beyond themselves and support a cause or organization that matters to them. It also reinforces the program’s broader emphasis on community involvement and positive contributions.
For some Fellows, the nonprofit donation may support agricultural education, conservation, rural development, food access or another community-focused initiative. The flexibility allows each honoree to direct support toward an organization aligned with their own interests and values.
Investing in the Future of Agriculture
The Fields of Promise Honors program is part of Pivot Bio’s broader activities marking its 15th anniversary. The company is using the milestone to recognize the people contributing to agriculture today while also drawing attention to the young people who will help shape the industry in the future.
Agriculture faces an evolving set of challenges and opportunities, from technological development and changing production practices to environmental stewardship and the continued need to strengthen rural communities. Addressing these issues will require new ideas, different perspectives and people willing to explore innovative solutions.
Young people are already participating in that process. Through research projects, farming operations, technology initiatives, conservation work, education and community programs, they are finding ways to contribute to an industry that affects food, communities and economies around the world.
Fields of Promise is intended to bring greater visibility to those efforts. By recognizing 15 young individuals who are already taking action, Pivot Bio aims to highlight the potential of the next generation while encouraging others to explore their own opportunities within agriculture.
Nominations are now open for the 15 Under 20 Fields of Promise Honors. Eligible young people whose contributions have taken place during the past year can be nominated for consideration as part of the inaugural class of 15 Fellows.
The initiative represents Pivot Bio’s effort to celebrate agricultural leadership in all its forms and to create a platform for young people whose ideas, determination and actions are helping define what comes next for agriculture, food, science and rural communities.
