Bayer Names Dr. Jost Reinhard President of Its Radiology Business

Bayer has announced the appointment of Dr. Jost Reinhard as President of its Radiology business within the company’s Pharmaceuticals Division, effective August 1, 2026. In his new role, Reinhard will report directly to Stefan Oelrich, Member of the Board of Management of Bayer AG and President of Bayer’s Pharmaceuticals Division. The leadership transition comes as Bayer continues to strengthen its position in the global radiology market and accelerate innovation across its healthcare portfolio.

Reinhard succeeds Nelson Ambrogio, who transitioned to the role of President of Bayer U.S. Pharmaceuticals in May 2026 after leading the Radiology business through a period of growth and strategic development. The appointment reflects Bayer’s commitment to advancing one of its key healthcare businesses while leveraging experienced leadership from within the organization.

Radiology has become an increasingly important component of Bayer’s pharmaceutical strategy, serving healthcare providers and patients worldwide with diagnostic imaging solutions, contrast agents, and digital innovations designed to improve disease detection and patient outcomes. The business has demonstrated strong performance in recent years, contributing significantly to Bayer’s broader healthcare growth ambitions.

Stefan Oelrich emphasized the strategic importance of the Radiology division and expressed confidence in Reinhard’s ability to lead the business into its next chapter.

“With a compelling performance in recent years and a clear strategic focus, Radiology is a key pillar of Bayer’s future growth agenda,” Oelrich said. “Jost Reinhard brings a strong combination of scientific expertise, strategic perspective and global leadership experience, and I am confident that he will successfully drive the next phase of innovation and growth for this business.”

The appointment places a seasoned Bayer executive at the helm of a business that continues to evolve amid growing demand for advanced diagnostic technologies and precision medicine solutions. As healthcare systems increasingly prioritize early diagnosis and personalized treatment approaches, radiology has emerged as a critical area supporting improved clinical decision-making and patient care.

Reinhard expressed enthusiasm about taking on the new leadership position and highlighted Bayer’s longstanding presence in the radiology sector.

“Bayer can build on a remarkable heritage in Radiology and a strong growth momentum, and I look forward to advancing this further together with the team—for the benefit of our partners, customers and the patients we serve,” Reinhard said.

His appointment brings more than 25 years of healthcare industry experience spanning scientific research, product development, commercial operations, and strategic management. Throughout his career at Bayer, Reinhard has held a variety of leadership positions across multiple regions and functions, providing him with a broad understanding of both the company’s operations and the global healthcare landscape.

Currently serving as Head of Investor Relations, Reinhard has been responsible for leading Bayer’s communication and engagement with investors and financial markets. In this role, he has played a significant part in articulating the company’s strategic priorities and business transformation efforts during a period of considerable change for Bayer. His work has involved close collaboration with senior executives, shareholders, analysts, and other stakeholders, helping strengthen the company’s relationships within the global investment community.

Reinhard’s Bayer journey began in 2001 when he joined Schering AG in Research & Development. Following Bayer’s acquisition of Schering in 2006, he continued to build his career within the organization, taking on increasingly important responsibilities within the Pharmaceuticals Division.

His early work focused on corporate and strategic functions, where he gained valuable experience in pharmaceutical development and business operations. Over time, he expanded his leadership responsibilities through several international assignments, demonstrating his ability to manage diverse teams and complex healthcare markets.

Among his notable commercial leadership roles were assignments in Australia, Poland, and France, where he oversaw business operations and contributed to the growth of Bayer’s pharmaceutical activities. These experiences provided him with deep insights into regional healthcare systems, customer needs, and market dynamics, helping shape his global leadership perspective.

In addition to his commercial accomplishments, Reinhard has played a key role in advancing innovation within Bayer. He previously served as Head of Bayer’s Cell and Gene Therapy unit, based in Boston, Massachusetts. The unit represents one of the company’s most advanced areas of scientific research and innovation, focusing on next-generation therapies with the potential to address serious and complex diseases.

His leadership of the cell and gene therapy business highlighted his ability to operate at the intersection of science, innovation, and commercial strategy—an experience that is expected to be highly valuable in guiding Bayer’s Radiology business through a rapidly evolving healthcare environment.

Reinhard’s academic background further underscores his strong scientific credentials. Born in Traben-Trarbach, Germany, he studied pharmacy in Bonn, Germany, as well as in Dijon, France, gaining an international educational perspective early in his career. He later earned a doctorate in molecular toxicology and medicinal chemistry from the German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg, one of Europe’s leading biomedical research institutions.

This combination of scientific expertise and business leadership has distinguished Reinhard throughout his career and positions him well to oversee a radiology business increasingly driven by technological innovation, data integration, and precision diagnostics.

As President of Radiology, Reinhard will be responsible for advancing Bayer’s portfolio of imaging products and services while identifying new opportunities for growth and innovation. His priorities are expected to include strengthening customer partnerships, expanding digital capabilities, supporting research and development initiatives, and enhancing the company’s position in the global imaging market.

The leadership transition also reflects Bayer’s broader strategy of developing talent internally and placing experienced executives in key growth areas. By appointing a leader with extensive knowledge of the company’s scientific, commercial, and strategic operations, Bayer aims to ensure continuity while pursuing new opportunities in one of healthcare’s most dynamic segments.

With radiology continuing to play a vital role in modern medicine, Reinhard’s appointment signals Bayer’s intention to build on its strong market position and accelerate innovation that benefits healthcare professionals, healthcare systems, and patients worldwide.
