Bimbo Group Commits to UN Women’s Empowerment Principles on a Global Scale

Grupo Bimbo, the foremost bakery company globally, has pledged its support for the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs), a set of guidelines designed to foster gender equality and empower women across the workplace, marketplace, and community. This commitment aligns with the company’s steadfast dedication to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).

The Women’s Empowerment Principles encompass seven key dimensions: top-tier corporate leadership; unbiased treatment of all individuals, irrespective of gender, in the workplace; ensuring the well-being and safety of associates; providing education and training opportunities for career advancement; promoting inclusive business practices in development, supply chain, and marketing; engaging in community initiatives and advocacy; and implementing measurement and reporting mechanisms.

Under these principles, Grupo Bimbo has outlined ambitious goals to achieve by 2030:

  1. Demonstrate significant progress in global gender equality by maintaining a 40% representation of female talent in leadership roles.
  2. Establish at least one economic autonomy project per organization dedicated to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
  3. Ensure that all internal and external marketing and communication strategies reflect the diversity of the communities in which the company operates.
  4. Tackle gender sensitivity and eliminate harassment, discrimination, and other forms of gender-based violence in the workplace.
  5. Promote education and awareness of gender issues among internal teams and business partners.

Daniel Servitje, CEO of Grupo Bimbo, emphasized, “Gender equality is not merely a goal but a fundamental principle that companies must champion to create environments where all individuals have equal opportunities to realize their full potential. We take pride in our global endorsement of the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles, as it reaffirms our commitment to expedite the construction of a more equitable world.”

Grupo Bimbo had previously committed to these principles at a local level in countries such as Mexico, Uruguay, Peru, Argentina, and Chile.

Internationally, the company actively advances Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion through various projects and initiatives, including DEI seminars to raise awareness among the workforce; Leadership Circles, a mentoring and support program inspired by Sheryl Sandberg’s Lean In methodology, aimed at encouraging the development of female talent in leadership positions; a Central Committee for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to monitor the strategy’s objectives and share best practices; and mentoring and support programs for the accelerated development of women leaders, among other initiatives.
