BioConsortia Names Matthew Mouw Vice President of Business Development

BioConsortia, Inc., a microbial discovery and development company focused on advancing high-performance biological solutions for agriculture, has appointed Matthew Mouw as Vice President of Business Development. The appointment comes as the company continues to advance its microbial technology portfolio toward commercialization and expand partnerships across global agricultural markets.

Mouw brings more than 30 years of experience spanning agricultural science, technology development, innovation and commercial leadership. His background includes work across broad-acre agriculture, vegetables, crop genetics, seed treatments, biologicals and other agricultural technologies, giving him extensive experience connecting scientific innovation with commercial opportunities.

Strengthening BioConsortia’s Commercial Growth

Mouw joins BioConsortia at an important stage in the company’s development. Its portfolio of microbial technologies is progressing toward commercialization across several categories, including biostimulants, biofertilizers and biocontrol products. These solutions are being developed for vegetables, row crops and other high-value agricultural markets.

As Vice President of Business Development, Mouw will concentrate on identifying and developing strategic partnerships that can help bring BioConsortia’s technologies to growers. His role will include evaluating commercial opportunities, developing relationships with potential partners and helping align the company’s microbial technologies with specific crop, market and grower requirements.

Marcus Meadows-Smith, Chief Executive Officer of BioConsortia, said Mouw joins the company at a time when the breadth and maturity of its technology pipeline are creating new commercial opportunities.

According to Meadows-Smith, Mouw’s combination of scientific knowledge and commercial experience will be particularly valuable as BioConsortia works to translate its microbial research into partnerships and products for the agricultural marketplace.

The company sees opportunities across both broad-acre and vegetable crops, with particular attention to markets where biological technologies can complement existing crop production practices and address grower needs.

Extensive Agricultural Science and Business Experience

Before joining BioConsortia, Mouw served as Chief Technology Officer at Ball Horticultural Company. In that position, he was responsible for advanced technology and innovation programs supporting the development of flower and vegetable genetics.

His work at Ball included leading multidisciplinary scientific teams operating across global research locations. He helped guide the development of emerging technologies and translate scientific advances into new products and capabilities designed to address grower and market needs.

Mouw also led Ball’s commercial business in Brazil, adding international commercial management experience to his scientific and technical background.

His career also includes 17 years at DuPont Pioneer, where he held a variety of scientific and commercial leadership positions. During his time with the company, Mouw worked on opportunities involving crop traits, seed treatments, biologicals and other agricultural technologies.

His responsibilities included identifying new business opportunities and supporting commercial activities associated with agricultural technology development. This combination of research, product development and commercial experience provides a foundation for his new responsibilities at BioConsortia.

Expanding Opportunities in Biological Agriculture

BioConsortia is developing microbial technologies designed to support multiple aspects of crop production. Its portfolio includes biostimulants, biofertilizers and biocontrol solutions, creating opportunities across different agricultural applications and crop segments.

The company’s approach combines microbial discovery with technologies and processes intended to identify promising microorganisms and develop them into commercially viable agricultural products.

Its capabilities include microbial discovery, genomics, gene editing, fermentation, formulation and field validation. By integrating these activities, BioConsortia aims to develop biological products that can deliver consistent performance under commercial farming conditions.

The company’s microbial technologies are being explored for applications related to nutrient efficiency, crop productivity, stress resilience, root and soil health, and crop protection.

For agricultural producers, biological products can play a role in broader crop management programs by complementing conventional agricultural inputs and supporting crop performance. The commercial development of such products, however, requires technology that can demonstrate consistent performance while meeting the practical requirements of growers, distributors and agricultural partners.

Mouw’s experience across technology development and commercial agriculture will be relevant as BioConsortia advances its pipeline through these stages.

Focus on Vegetables and High-Value Crops

One of Mouw’s priorities will be expanding BioConsortia’s presence in vegetable agriculture and other high-value crop markets. His previous experience with Ball Horticultural Company included leadership in flower and vegetable genetics, providing direct familiarity with the requirements of these markets.

BioConsortia also intends to pursue opportunities in row crops and other agricultural segments. The company’s broad microbial portfolio allows it to explore partnerships involving different crop systems and biological applications.

Mouw said the company has developed a broad portfolio of microbial technologies and that the next step is connecting those technologies with appropriate partners, crops and markets.

He added that he is looking forward to expanding BioConsortia’s activities in vegetables while also pursuing commercial opportunities across row crops and other important agricultural segments.

Building Strategic Partnerships

Partnership development will be a central component of Mouw’s new role. BioConsortia expects its growing pipeline to create opportunities for collaboration with agricultural companies seeking microbial technologies for specific crops and applications.

Through strategic partnerships, BioConsortia can work with companies that have established market access, distribution networks, crop expertise or product development capabilities. Such collaborations can help connect microbial technologies with agricultural markets and potentially accelerate the commercialization process.

Sarah Reiter, Senior Vice President of Business Development at BioConsortia, highlighted Mouw’s combination of scientific understanding and commercial leadership. She said his experience in both vegetable and broad-acre markets will support the company as more programs become ready for partnership.

Reiter also emphasized Mouw’s ability to connect market requirements with technology development, an important capability as BioConsortia expands its pipeline and commercial activities.

Supporting the Next Stage of BioConsortia’s Development

The appointment reflects BioConsortia’s broader focus on moving microbial innovation from discovery and development toward commercial applications. The company is positioning its technology platform to support partnerships across biostimulants, biofertilizers and biocontrol products.

As agriculture continues to explore biological solutions for crop productivity, nutrient management, stress resilience and crop protection, companies developing microbial technologies are seeking ways to demonstrate reliable performance at commercial scale. BioConsortia’s integrated development capabilities are intended to support that process from microbial discovery through field validation and product development.

Mouw’s appointment adds extensive scientific and commercial experience to the company’s leadership team as it works to expand partnerships and advance its microbial product pipeline.

Mouw holds a Ph.D. in molecular biology from the University of Missouri and an MBA from the University of Iowa. He earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from Colorado College.

With his background across agricultural science, technology, commercial development and international business, Mouw will support BioConsortia’s efforts to identify new opportunities, develop strategic relationships and advance microbial technologies toward commercial agricultural applications.
