Chief Marketing Officer John Ludeke Appointed by CAVA

CAVA, the Mediterranean fast-casual restaurant brand, has announced the appointment of John Ludeke as its new Chief Marketing Officer, adding an experienced consumer marketing executive to its leadership team as the company continues to expand its national presence. Ludeke will assume the role on October 12 and will oversee CAVA’s marketing organization, with a focus on strengthening the brand, deepening guest relationships and supporting the company’s ongoing growth.

The appointment comes as CAVA continues to build its position within the fast-casual restaurant sector. With its Mediterranean-inspired menu, hospitality-focused approach and distinctive brand identity, the company has been expanding its restaurant footprint while investing in ways to connect with consumers across physical and digital channels.

In his new position, Ludeke will work closely with CAVA’s leadership and other business functions to further differentiate the brand and create stronger connections between marketing and the guest experience. His responsibilities will include developing strategies designed to increase guest engagement and loyalty, advancing digital experiences and ensuring that CAVA’s marketing initiatives are closely connected to what customers experience inside its restaurants.

Experienced Consumer Marketing Leader Joins CAVA

Ludeke brings more than 17 years of experience working with consumer brands, including businesses undergoing rapid growth and transformation. His career has focused on building culturally relevant brands, developing marketing strategies and creating campaigns intended to establish stronger relationships between companies and their audiences.

Before joining CAVA, Ludeke served as Chief Brand Officer at Dr. Squatch, a men’s personal care company. As part of the company’s executive leadership team, he was responsible for a broad range of functions, including global brand strategy, creative, brand and retail media, social media, public relations, retail marketing, partnerships and overall marketing strategy.

During his time at Dr. Squatch, Ludeke helped guide the company through a period of substantial expansion. The business grew to approximately $500 million in revenue while strengthening its position in the men’s personal care market. He also played a role in guiding the company’s marketing organization through its acquisition by Unilever.

His work at Dr. Squatch also included developing major social and cultural marketing initiatives. The company expanded its presence through campaigns and partnerships involving celebrities, creators and entertainment properties, helping the brand broaden its visibility and engagement with consumers.

International Experience at Monster Energy

Prior to his tenure at Dr. Squatch, Ludeke spent more than 10 years at Monster Energy, where he held senior marketing positions with significant international responsibilities.

More than six years of that period were spent working in Shanghai and Seoul, where Ludeke led marketing activities across the Asia-Pacific region. His responsibilities covered markets including Japan, South Korea, China, India and Vietnam, giving him extensive experience working across diverse consumer markets and cultural environments.

In addition to his regional responsibilities, Ludeke contributed to global marketing strategy across numerous countries. His work involved developing campaigns and partnerships designed to connect the Monster Energy brand with consumers through sports, entertainment, technology and popular culture.

During his time with Monster Energy, Ludeke worked with a range of major global brands, including Adidas, Ford, Activision, Tencent, Sony and DJI. These partnerships helped demonstrate his experience in developing marketing programs that combine brand positioning, cultural relevance and consumer engagement.

His marketing work has also received industry recognition. Ludeke has been recognized by organizations and publications including Adweek, The Drum and the Marketing Agencies Association Worldwide. His professional recognition has included appearances on the Adweek 50, Adweek Creative 100 and The Drum Rebel 50.

Supporting CAVA’s Brand and Guest Experience

At CAVA, Ludeke will bring this combination of consumer marketing, international experience and brand-building expertise to a restaurant business that is continuing to expand.

The company said his appointment will help strengthen the connection between its marketing activities and the overall restaurant experience. Rather than treating marketing as a separate function, CAVA intends to use it as a way to reinforce the food, hospitality and brand values guests encounter throughout their relationship with the company.

Ludeke will also focus on digital experiences and guest engagement as CAVA seeks to build longer-term relationships with its customers. Digital platforms have become increasingly important to restaurant companies as consumers interact with brands through ordering systems, loyalty programs, social media and other online channels.

By bringing marketing and the guest experience closer together, CAVA aims to create a more consistent brand presence across restaurants and digital touchpoints.

Brett Schulman, Co-founder and CEO of CAVA, said Ludeke has demonstrated an ability to build culturally relevant consumer brands and translate a brand’s identity into marketing strategies that support business growth.

According to Schulman, CAVA has an opportunity to introduce the flavors, hospitality and generosity associated with the Mediterranean to a broader audience. He also highlighted Ludeke’s leadership qualities, including curiosity, agility, positivity and a collaborative approach.

Schulman said these qualities align with CAVA’s leadership culture and expressed enthusiasm about Ludeke joining the company.

Expanding the Mediterranean Brand

CAVA’s growth strategy centers on making its Mediterranean food and hospitality accessible to more consumers and communities. The company has developed a distinctive position within the fast-casual restaurant market by combining customizable Mediterranean-inspired food with an emphasis on hospitality and brand experience.

Ludeke’s appointment is expected to support this strategy by helping CAVA communicate its identity more effectively as the restaurant company expands into additional markets.

His previous experience scaling consumer brands could also be relevant as CAVA manages the challenges associated with national growth. Expanding a restaurant brand requires maintaining consistency while also ensuring that marketing remains relevant to different audiences and communities.

Ludeke will therefore be responsible for helping translate CAVA’s Mediterranean ethos into marketing and brand experiences that resonate with guests while remaining consistent with the company’s broader identity.

Ludeke Looks Ahead to CAVA’s Next Stage

Ludeke said CAVA has created a brand built around food, hospitality and a clear philosophy about the role food can play in people’s lives. He described the company as having significant momentum and an opportunity to influence the future direction of the restaurant industry.

As he joins CAVA, Ludeke said he looks forward to learning from the team that built the company and contributing to its next stage of development. He also emphasized his interest in helping bring CAVA’s Mediterranean spirit to more guests and communities.

His arrival adds an executive with experience spanning restaurant-adjacent consumer marketing, personal care, energy drinks, international markets, digital engagement and large-scale brand partnerships to CAVA’s leadership team.

Effective October 12, Ludeke will begin leading CAVA’s marketing organization as the company continues its national expansion. His priorities will include strengthening brand differentiation, increasing guest engagement, developing digital experiences and creating stronger links between marketing and the restaurant experience.

With CAVA continuing to grow, the appointment positions marketing as an important component of the company’s broader strategy to build guest loyalty and expand awareness of its Mediterranean-focused fast-casual concept. Ludeke’s background in scaling consumer brands and developing culturally relevant marketing campaigns will now be applied to CAVA as the company works to reach more consumers while maintaining the distinctive identity that has helped define its brand.
