FarmboxRx and Unite For HER Offer Free Healthy Food to Breast Cancer Patients Nationwide

FarmboxRx, a leader in food-as-medicine initiatives, has partnered with Unite For HER, a non-profit dedicated to providing integrative therapies to individuals affected by breast and ovarian cancer. Through Unite For HER’s Passport Program, participants can now opt for weekly food deliveries from FarmboxRx. Each delivery includes farm-fresh, seasonal produce along with health literacy materials to support women navigating cancer treatment.

Breast cancer is the most prevalent cancer among women in the U.S., representing nearly 30% of all new diagnoses. Food insecurity remains a critical issue for many affected, often impacting access to proper cancer care.

“FarmboxRx is deeply committed to enhancing health outcomes, and as a female-founded company, women’s health is at the heart of our mission,” said Ashley Tyrner-Dolce, Founder & CEO of FarmboxRx. “Our partnership with Unite For HER exemplifies how shared values can unite organizations to create meaningful change. Through our Food as Medicine initiative, we’re dedicated to improving access to nutritious food and health education as part of Unite For HER’s Passport Program. We aim to empower women to prioritize their health, especially through preventive care like mammograms.”

By collaborating with health plans and non-profits such as Unite For HER, FarmboxRx is pioneering the use of food to foster preventive care and member engagement across the country. Their programs provide fresh produce and essential pantry items delivered directly to people in need, and their health plan partnerships have shown a 53% increase in engagement with preventive screenings, such as breast cancer screenings, compared to digital-only approaches.

“When detected early, breast cancer patients have nearly a 100% chance of survival,” noted Nicole Hungate, a cancer survivor and Product and Quality Strategy Consultant at FarmboxRx. “Through my work with FarmboxRx, I’ve seen firsthand how food can improve health outcomes and encourage life-saving screenings.”

FarmboxRx’s model offers an innovative approach to health literacy and preventative care through food delivery, including educational materials about health benefits and preventative screenings such as mammograms and pap smears.

Sue Weldon, Founder and CEO of Unite For HER, expressed her support for the collaboration: “We’re proud to partner with FarmboxRx to nourish participants nationwide. Our registered dietitians provide personalized guidance, cooking classes, recipes, and tips to support participants at every stage. Many lack access to fresh produce in their communities, and this partnership allows us to deliver vital nutrition and support directly to their homes.”

For over a decade, Unite For HER has provided resources for integrative therapies like nutrition, acupuncture, yoga, and more to support holistic healing for breast and ovarian cancer patients. Through this partnership, FarmboxRx and Unite For HER are helping participants access healthy foods and educational resources to aid in their recovery journey.

To date, FarmboxRx has delivered millions of pounds of fresh produce and medically tailored meals to managed care members across all 50 states, supporting a more accessible and nutritious future for individuals nationwide.
