Flourish Systems and Origine Nature Expand Precision Irrigation Technology Across Cultivation Facility

Flourish Systems, a U.S.-based agricultural technology company headquartered in Colorado, and Origine Nature, an award-winning Canadian licensed cannabis producer, have announced an expanded deployment of Flourish Systems’ precision, weight-based irrigation technology throughout Origine Nature’s indoor cultivation operation.

The collaboration brings together cultivation expertise, plant-level data and advanced irrigation monitoring as Origine Nature continues to explore technologies designed to improve crop consistency, production efficiency and quality. The company is known for its focus on craft cultivation, genetics selection, applied research and data-driven production.

Origine Nature was named Canada’s Top Grower in both 2022 and 2023 and has received recognition at the Canadian Cannabis Championship. Its recent honors include a 2026 award for Golden Gauth, highlighting the company’s continued focus on genetics, cultivation practices and product quality.

The expanded technology deployment is being led at Origine Nature by Alexandre Gauthier, Vice-President of Research and Development. In his role, Gauthier oversees cultivation research, genetics, product innovation and the introduction of new technologies into the company’s production environment.

Gauthier’s approach combines the practical knowledge of experienced cultivators with detailed plant-level data. The objective is to better understand the factors that influence crop performance and to establish repeatable growing conditions that can support consistent outcomes across cultivation cycles.

“Exceptional cannabis requires more than a successful room or a single strong result,” said Gauthier. “Our objective is to understand why a crop performs, standardize the conditions that produced that result and identify deviations early enough to take meaningful action.”

Continuous Monitoring for Irrigation Management

Flourish Systems’ technology is designed to provide cultivators with continuous information about substrate weight rather than relying primarily on measurements taken at individual points in time.

By monitoring changes in substrate mass, the system can provide insight into several aspects of crop performance, including plant water consumption, irrigation uptake, runoff, dryback and trends associated with biomass accumulation.

This continuous monitoring approach can give cultivation teams a more detailed picture of how plants respond to irrigation over time. Instead of evaluating irrigation performance only through periodic observations, growers can use ongoing measurements to identify changes in plant water use and growing conditions.

For Origine Nature, the technology is being evaluated as part of a broader effort to connect cultivation practices with measurable crop outcomes. The company is using data from cultivation runs to investigate the relationship between irrigation management, plant development and final production results.

One comparative test produced a notable result. An Origine Nature cultivation room using Flourish Systems technology recorded a 30% higher final dry weight of trimmed flower compared with a comparison room.

However, the companies emphasized that the result was observed under specific test conditions and should not be considered a validated or consistently repeatable increase in yield. Origine Nature is continuing its testing to determine which variables contributed to the difference and whether similar results can be reproduced across additional cultivation cycles.

This distinction is important as the company evaluates the technology. Rather than treating a single test result as conclusive, Origine Nature is using ongoing trials to examine the underlying factors that may influence crop performance.

Combining Cultivation Experience With Data

The partnership also reflects a broader trend within controlled-environment agriculture toward using real-time data to supplement growers’ experience.

Experienced cultivation teams can identify changes in plants and growing conditions through visual inspection and established operating practices. Continuous data can provide another layer of information, allowing those observations to be supported by measurable changes in substrate weight and water movement.

Dan Ziernicki, Founder and CEO of Flourish Systems, said Origine Nature’s combination of scientific research and commercial cultivation experience provides an environment for further development of the technology.

“Origine Nature brings the scientific discipline and commercial cultivation experience needed to transform plant-level data into practical operating knowledge,” Ziernicki said. “This expanded deployment gives our teams an opportunity to advance the platform alongside cultivators who are committed to rigorous testing and continuous improvement.”

The expanded deployment is therefore focused not only on irrigation monitoring but also on developing practical applications for the data generated during cultivation.

Exploring Earlier Yield Forecasting

One of the key objectives of the collaboration is the continued development of tools capable of estimating final crop yield several weeks before harvest.

The teams are exploring whether biomass-gain trends and historical crop information can be used to forecast potential final yields approximately three to four weeks ahead of harvest.

Earlier estimates could potentially give cultivation and production teams additional time to prepare for changes in expected supply. Sales and inventory teams could also benefit from earlier visibility into potential production levels, allowing planning activities to begin before a crop reaches harvest.

Such forecasting would depend on the quality and consistency of the underlying data. Continued cultivation runs will help determine how accurately biomass-gain trends can be connected with final harvest outcomes.

Building Reference Runs for Crop Performance

Another area of development involves creating reference runs based on successful historical crops.

Under this approach, Origine Nature could establish expected performance ranges using data from previous cultivation cycles. New cultivation runs could then be compared with these reference profiles to identify potential deviations from expected conditions.

If a current crop begins moving outside an established performance range, the system could help cultivation teams investigate the change and determine whether corrective action is necessary.

The longer-term objective is to identify developing issues before they become apparent at harvest. This could support a more proactive approach to crop management, particularly when deviations involve irrigation behavior, water uptake, dryback or biomass development.

Supporting More Consistent Cultivation

The expanded deployment represents an effort by Origine Nature and Flourish Systems to use continuous plant-level information as part of a structured cultivation improvement process.

Rather than relying solely on final harvest measurements to determine whether a crop performed as expected, the teams are exploring ways to monitor crop development throughout the production cycle. This approach could help connect cultivation decisions with measurable changes in plant performance and provide earlier opportunities to investigate unexpected results.

For Origine Nature, the technology fits into a wider strategy centered on research, genetics, product innovation and data-driven cultivation. For Flourish Systems, the collaboration provides an opportunity to develop its precision irrigation platform in partnership with an experienced commercial cultivation operation.

As additional cultivation runs are completed, the companies will be able to assess whether the observed relationships between irrigation behavior, biomass development and final yield remain consistent across different crops and growing conditions.

The collaboration ultimately aims to improve the ability of cultivation teams to understand crop performance in real time, recognize deviations earlier and establish more consistent operating conditions. By combining continuous weight-based irrigation monitoring with historical cultivation data and practical grower expertise, Origine Nature and Flourish Systems are working toward a more measurable and proactive model for indoor cultivation management.
