Hershey and Dandelion Media to Bring Founder’s Journey to Life in 2026 Film ‘HERSHEY’
A captivating new biographical drama, HERSHEY, is officially slated to begin production in May 2025. The film will explore the life of Milton S. Hershey, the visionary entrepreneur behind one of the most beloved chocolate brands in the world, and his devoted wife, Catherine “Kitty” Hershey. While millions around the globe are familiar with the iconic, silver-wrapped Hershey’s chocolate bar, few truly know the remarkable and deeply human story of the man who created it. This upcoming film aims to change that—presenting a rich and emotional narrative that goes far beyond sweet confections.
A Dandelion Media production, HERSHEY is being made in partnership with the Hershey Entities and in association with Aloe Entertainment, Peachtree Group, and RCM3. The project will be represented globally by UTA Independent Film Group. Scheduled for release in 2026, the timing of the premiere is no accident—it will coincide with the United States’ 250th anniversary, adding an extra layer of patriotic resonance to the story of one of America’s most inspiring industrialists and philanthropists.
The film will be directed by Mark Waters, best known for directing hit films such as Mean Girls, The Spiderwick Chronicles, and Mr. Popper’s Penguins. Leading the cast are Finn Wittrock (The Big Short, American Horror Story) as Milton Hershey and Alexandra Daddario (The White Lotus, San Andreas, True Detective) as Catherine Hershey. The casting choice reflects a desire to engage audiences across generations, blending star power with emotional range.
From Chocolate Bars to Changing Lives: The Real Story Behind the Brand
Though Hershey’s name is now synonymous with chocolate, Milton Hershey’s road to success was anything but smooth. He faced numerous business failures and financial setbacks before he finally found his footing with the Lancaster Caramel Company and later revolutionized the candy industry with mass-produced milk chocolate. But what truly sets Hershey apart from other tycoons of his era was his unparalleled commitment to social responsibility.
Rather than hoarding his wealth, Hershey poured his fortune into building a community and a school that would uplift those in need. His passion project, the Milton Hershey School—originally founded as a home and educational institution for orphaned boys—continues today as a thriving coeducational school that supports thousands of students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
According to director Mark Waters, “Against all odds, Milton achieved great success, but unlike many other wealthy men of his time, he shared his success with the working people and the community around him. The heart of HERSHEY lies in the enduring love story between Milton and Catherine Hershey, and how that love inspired a legacy that still touches lives today.”
Waters brings his signature storytelling charm and emotional nuance to the project, while Wittrock and Daddario are poised to bring authenticity, depth, and warmth to the real-life couple’s journey. “I’m excited to have Finn and Alexandra portray these two visionaries,” said Waters. “They believed in leaving the world a better place than they found it—and that’s the kind of wonderful, true story audiences are hungry for right now.”

Behind the Scenes: A Collaborative Vision
The film’s production team includes a robust lineup of industry professionals: Sharon Paul (Marlowe, Nuremberg), Mark Tilghman (An Acre of Fools, Vivaldi), Mary Aloe (Mary, Worth), Joshua Harris (Sleeping Dogs, Land of Bad), and Will Hardy. Executive producers include Daniel Hank, Joseph Lanius, Flip & Susan Flippen, and Joanne Marlowe of RCM3. The screenplay, penned by Sharon Paul and Timothy Michael Hayes, draws on extensive research and access to the Hershey archives to create an authentic and compelling story.
To ensure historical accuracy and a deep understanding of Hershey’s life and values, the five Hershey Entities—the Hershey Company, Milton Hershey School, Hershey Entertainment & Resorts, The M.S. Hershey Foundation, and the Hershey Trust Company—have all collaborated closely with the filmmakers. These entities, each carrying forward aspects of Milton’s legacy, opened their doors to Dandelion Media, offering unprecedented access to historical archives and Hershey historians.
“Milton Hershey’s story exemplifies the American Dream,” said Michele Buck, President and CEO of The Hershey Company. “This movie will show that Milton and Kitty built something far greater than a chocolate company. Their legacy reaches beyond confections to education, community, and opportunity for thousands of people. We’re proud to support a film that will share the full Hershey story—a story of resilience, vision, and impact that continues to inspire.”
A Legacy That Lives On
Pete Gurt, President of the Milton Hershey School and a proud alumnus, echoed these sentiments. “Milton and Catherine Hershey’s greatest achievement wasn’t chocolate—it was creating a home and school for generations of children in need. As someone who personally benefited from their generosity, I’ve seen firsthand how their vision transforms lives. This film will beautifully capture the spirit of their mission and the power of giving.”
The HERSHEY film promises to be much more than a corporate origin story. It is a testament to the enduring power of compassion, love, and purposeful entrepreneurship. Through the lens of the Hersheys’ love story and the legacy they built together, the movie will remind audiences that true success is not just measured by what we build, but by what we give back.
Industry Representation and Outlook
Director Mark Waters is represented by UTA, while Finn Wittrock is represented by CAA, Mosaic, Weissenbach Management, and Schreck Rose Dapello. As production gears up and anticipation builds, HERSHEY is poised to become a standout cinematic tribute to a man and woman whose love and vision shaped not only a brand, but a better future for countless children and communities. When it debuts in 2026, the film won’t just offer the sweet taste of nostalgia—it will also deliver a powerful, uplifting message that generosity and perseverance can change the world.
