Mad Coffee Introduces Revolutionary Take on Premium Iced Coffee

In a bold move that redefines the iced coffee landscape, pioneering biotechnology firm Genecis Bioindustries has announced the official launch of its newest consumer brand: Mad Coffee. The brand introduces a disruptive, first-of-its-kind iced coffee experience designed to cater to the evolving demands of busy, eco-conscious coffee lovers. Featuring Genecis’ proprietary LyoExtract™ technology, Mad Coffee delivers barista-quality cold brew in just three seconds—no machines, no filters, and no prep time needed.

With a focus on premium quality, speed, and sustainability, Mad Coffee is poised to reshape consumer expectations of convenience coffee. It comes packaged in compostable single-serve MadCups, which dissolve completely in hot or cold liquid without clumping or leaving behind a bitter aftertaste. Whether poured into water or milk, each cup offers a smooth, bold, and aromatic experience that rivals freshly brewed café beverages—minus the wait or waste.

A Revolutionary Approach to Instant Coffee

At the core of Mad Coffee’s innovation is its LyoExtract™ technology, an advanced freeze-drying process developed to preserve the integrity and flavor of freshly brewed coffee. Unlike traditional instant coffee, which often sacrifices taste for convenience, LyoExtract™ flash-freezes brewed coffee at -45°C and then sublimates the frozen product over a 30-hour period. The result is a crystalized concentrate that retains its nuanced flavor, aroma, and mouthfeel—all while being shelf-stable and dissolvable.

This unique method allows for a barista-quality cup of coffee in seconds, sidestepping the need for brewing equipment or hours of steeping. The formulation has been crafted with a level of precision uncommon in the ready-to-drink or instant coffee segments.

Coffee That Tells a Story—From Bean to Cup

Mad Coffee uses 100% Arabica coffee beans sourced directly from smallholder and family-owned farms around the world. Its coffee blends originate in premium coffee-growing regions such as Colombia, Ethiopia, and Yunnan, China. These locations are known for their distinct flavor profiles and artisanal farming practices. This approach not only ensures a high-quality product but also promotes ethical sourcing and supports farming communities.

Currently, the Mad Coffee range includes four signature blends:

  • Classic Cold Brew – a bold, smooth base with chocolate and nutty undertones
  • Americano – a cleaner, lighter roast that’s ideal for hot or cold sipping
  • Vanilla Caramel – a crowd-pleasing blend with rich, sweet notes
  • Single Origin Espresso – an intense, complex flavor from specialty beans

Each blend is crafted to satisfy different consumer preferences while maintaining the ease-of-use the brand is built upon.

Designed for the Modern Lifestyle

Mad Coffee is tailored for today’s fast-paced, convenience-driven consumers. With no refrigeration or brewing time needed, it’s the perfect on-the-go solution for:

  • Busy professionals
  • Commuters
  • Parents
  • Students
  • Travelers
  • Fitness and wellness enthusiasts

The product’s portability, simplicity, and quality eliminate the trade-offs that usually come with instant coffee or cold brew alternatives.

“With Mad Coffee, we’re able to blend the core needs of our customers—those seeking bold flavor and aroma, convenience, and affordability—with advancements in technology in the coffee space,” said Luna Yu, CEO and Founder of Mad Coffee and Genecis Bioindustries. “Building on the success of Mad Tea, Mad Coffee reflects our continued commitment to elevating moments in our daily routines, making it easier than ever to enjoy premium, café-quality coffee on the go.”

Expertise Behind the Flavor

The development of Mad Coffee’s flavor profiles and processing was a collaborative effort involving global experts. Genecis partnered with André Eiermann, a globally recognized coffee innovator and the 2017 Swiss Barista Champion, and Dr. Alina Alexeenko, a top authority in lyophilization technology and a long-time NASA research partner.

Eiermann’s expertise in roasting and brewing helped ensure that each blend delivers a refined, barista-style experience. “Instant coffee has come a long way—from a quick caffeine fix to a new generation of barista-style beverages you can prepare in seconds,” Eiermann said. “I loved seeing how Mad Coffee approached this shift with small batch roasting, community lot sourcing, and fun cold brew options like their Vanilla Caramel, which brings one of America’s favorite flavor profiles to life in an instant.”

Dr. Alexeenko’s involvement was key in optimizing the freeze-drying process to ensure flavor, shelf-life, and performance all aligned with Mad Coffee’s high standards.

Sustainability at the Forefront

Environmental consciousness plays a central role in Mad Coffee’s mission. Each MadCup is industrial compostable, addressing the global problem of single-use plastic and paper cups. With over 500 million single-use beverage cups consumed annually and 10 million metric tons of plastic waste entering the oceans, Mad Coffee aims to be a part of the solution—not the problem.

The launch follows the success of Mad Tea, Genecis’ compostable tea pod brand that debuted last year to strong consumer interest. The brand’s environmentally friendly approach is grounded in the R&D legacy of its parent company, Genecis Bioindustries, a leader in creating PHA (polyhydroxyalkanoates)—a biodegradable plastic made from organic waste using synthetic biology and engineered bacteria.

Genecis’ PHA-based material is natural, non-toxic, and industrially compostable, offering a more sustainable alternative to conventional plastics. The material is safer for both humans and wildlife and breaks down with far fewer microplastics.

Mad Coffee is now available online at in packs of 12 MadCups, offering direct access to consumers nationwide.
