Patch Café Local Favorite Restaurants Completes Acquisition of Cotton Patch Café

Cotton Patch Cafe (“Cotton Patch” or the “Company”), a well-known restaurant chain recognized for its scratch-made Texas comfort food, has officially been acquired by Local Favorite Restaurants (“Local Favorite”), a Dallas-based platform specializing in community-rooted dining brands. The transaction marks a new chapter for the brand, as ownership transitions from Altamont Capital Partners (“Altamont”) to a group focused on strengthening and expanding regional restaurant concepts. Harrington Park Advisors acted as the exclusive financial advisor to Cotton Patch during the deal. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Founded in 1989 by Larry Marshall and Michael Patranella, Cotton Patch Cafe has built its reputation over more than three decades by offering traditional Texas-style comfort food in a casual dining setting. The brand is especially known for its homestyle cooking approach, featuring menu staples such as chicken-fried steak, freshly prepared sides, and warm, freshly baked rolls served to guests across its locations. Over the years, Cotton Patch has expanded to 46 restaurants located throughout Texas and New Mexico, earning a loyal customer base that values its consistent food quality, welcoming atmosphere, and everyday affordability.

The restaurant chain’s identity has long been tied to its emphasis on scratch cooking and hospitality-driven service. Unlike many casual dining competitors that rely heavily on pre-prepared food components, Cotton Patch has maintained a commitment to preparing meals in-house, reinforcing its positioning as a comfort food destination rooted in Texas culinary tradition. This approach has helped the brand remain relevant in a highly competitive restaurant segment while maintaining strong guest loyalty across generations.

In recent years, Cotton Patch Cafe has undergone a notable operational and performance turnaround under the leadership of Chief Executive Officer Brandon Coleman III. The company has strengthened its focus on guest experience, workforce development, and operational discipline, which has translated into improved financial performance. One of the key strategic initiatives introduced during Coleman’s leadership has been the $9.99 Texas Value Meals program, designed to offer accessible pricing while maintaining food quality and portion value.

These efforts have delivered measurable results. Cotton Patch has achieved six consecutive quarters of positive same-store sales and sustained traffic growth, signaling a consistent recovery and momentum in guest demand. The company’s performance has been particularly strong within the casual dining sector, where many brands have faced challenges related to inflationary pressure, shifting consumer preferences, and increased competition from fast-casual operators. By focusing on affordability, service quality, and operational efficiency, Cotton Patch has been able to differentiate itself and regain traction with its core customer base.

Beyond financial metrics, the brand has also seen recognition in its home market of Dallas–Fort Worth. Under Coleman’s leadership, Cotton Patch has received multiple accolades in The Dallas Morning News Best in DFW People’s Choice Awards. In 2025, the restaurant earned top honors in several categories, including Best Comfort Food, Most Kid-Friendly Restaurant, and Best Chain Restaurant. These awards reflect not only customer satisfaction but also the brand’s strong emotional connection with local diners.

Commenting on the acquisition, CEO Brandon Coleman III highlighted the company’s renewed focus over the past two years on reinforcing its foundational strengths. According to Coleman, the leadership team prioritized investing in employees, improving guest experience, and delivering consistent value across all locations. He emphasized that the brand’s success has been driven by treating guests like family and maintaining a friendly, service-oriented culture. Coleman also noted that the partnership with Local Favorite Restaurants represents a strategic alignment of values, bringing Cotton Patch back under Texas-based ownership and opening the door for future expansion.

With the acquisition, Cotton Patch becomes part of Local Favorite Restaurants’ growing portfolio of regionally inspired dining concepts. The platform already operates several established Texas-based brands, including El Fenix Mexican Restaurant, Snuffer’s Restaurant & Bar, Meso Maya, Taqueria La Ventana, Wok Star Chinese, Campuzano Mexican Food, Twisted Root Burger Company, and Village Burger Bar. This diverse collection of restaurant concepts reflects Local Favorite’s broader strategy of building a portfolio centered on authentic, community-driven dining experiences with strong regional identity.

Local Favorite Restaurants founder Mike Karns expressed enthusiasm about integrating Cotton Patch into the portfolio, describing the brand as a strong fit for the company’s philosophy of supporting locally rooted restaurant concepts. He emphasized that Cotton Patch embodies authenticity, community connection, and a guest-first approach, all of which align closely with Local Favorite’s operating principles. Karns also pointed to the momentum already established under Cotton Patch’s current leadership team and indicated that the company intends to apply its operational expertise and real estate strategy to support further growth.

From the perspective of Altamont Capital Partners, the transaction represents the successful conclusion of a partnership focused on brand strengthening and operational improvement. Managing Director Kevin Mason noted that Cotton Patch’s appeal has always been rooted in its ability to resonate with local communities through consistent food quality and a familiar dining experience. He highlighted the transformation achieved during Altamont’s ownership period, particularly in strengthening brand performance and guest engagement. Mason also expressed confidence that Local Favorite is well-positioned to guide the company into its next stage of development.

The acquisition underscores a broader trend in the restaurant industry, where regional operators and private investment platforms are increasingly focused on consolidating and scaling locally beloved brands. For Cotton Patch Cafe, the deal represents both continuity and change: continuity in its commitment to Texas comfort food and guest hospitality, and change in the form of new ownership that aims to accelerate growth and expand its reach.

As Cotton Patch enters this new phase under Local Favorite Restaurants, the focus is expected to remain on strengthening operational performance, preserving its core identity, and exploring opportunities for expansion within and potentially beyond its existing markets. With strong brand recognition, recent performance gains, and a portfolio of supportive sister brands, Cotton Patch appears positioned to build on its momentum in the evolving casual dining landscape.
