An organic food company renowned for its dedication to flavor and innovation in the seed-to-table movement is excited to announce the nationwide release of two category-defining fall crops: Upstate Abundance potatoes and Koginut squash. These exclusive varieties are now available in select Whole Foods Market stores across the country.
This milestone follows a highly successful growing season for Row 7’s partner farms, which delivered remarkable harvests of Upstate Abundance potatoes and Koginut squash that surpassed expectations. The bountiful yields have enabled this coast-to-coast distribution, as Row 7 continues to support organic growers by bringing their flavorful produce to tables nationwide.
“Flavor has always had the potential to transform the way people eat,” said Row 7 Founder Chef Dan Barber. “We’re excited to offer these game-changing vegetables in Whole Foods Market stores nationwide, right at the peak of their freshness and flavor.”
Whether it’s the naturally creamy texture of Upstate Abundance potatoes or the nutty sweetness of Koginut squash, these crops are inspiring chefs and home cooks alike to reimagine everyday recipes and holiday favorites. This is a plant-based revolution—using real, flavorful ingredients—showcasing what’s possible when innovation begins with the seed.
Erik Brown, Executive Leader of Produce at Whole Foods Market, expressed enthusiasm about the expanded partnership, stating, “We’re thrilled to bring Row 7 Seed Company’s innovative fall varieties to more stores nationwide. This initiative highlights our mutual commitment to providing unique, flavorful produce and supporting local and organic growers.”
Years of research through the Row 7 Trial Network—a participatory group of 150 chefs and farmers—led to the development of these varieties. Tested both in the field and in the kitchen, Upstate Abundance potatoes and Koginut squash were selected for their outstanding flavor and versatility.
In alignment with its mission to partner with regional organic farms, Row 7 has collaborated with Lakeside Organic Gardens, Durst Organic Farms, Ernie’s Organic, and Peralta Farms on the West Coast, as well as Norwich Meadows Farm, Plainville Farm, and Red Hill Farms on the East Coast. Their shared goal is to deliver tastier food, healthier soils, and a more diverse, nourishing diet to people nationwide.
