Southeastern Grocers Inc. (SEG), the parent company of Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie grocery stores, is commemorating Black History Month by launching its annual grant program and community service initiatives through the SEG Gives Foundation. The initiative underscores SEG’s enduring dedication to belonging, inclusion, and diversity.
The 2024 Romay Davis Belonging, Inclusion, and Diversity Grant is open for applications from nonprofits in the Southeast. The grant supports organizations addressing racial disparities in health care, food insecurity, and education. Nonprofits in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, and Mississippi can apply for grants ranging from $5,000 to $25,000 at www.seggives.com/grantapp until August 31. In 2023, SEG marked a significant milestone, awarding over $1 million in belonging, inclusion, and diversity grants.
Raymond Rhee, Chief People Officer for Southeastern Grocers, emphasized the significance of honoring Black History Month and the contributions of Black visionaries. He highlighted the commitment to fostering inclusivity and positive change in marginalized communities through the grant program and partnerships with organizations like the American Red Cross and the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Foundation.
SEG recently participated in the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Foundation Holiday Grand Parade, celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. King. Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie volunteers, along with Sanctuary on 8th Street, a grant recipient, joined the parade to empower Jacksonville youth in need.
On February 12, SEG will partner with the American Red Cross for a day of service, participating in the Sound the Alarm campaign. Winn-Dixie associates will help install free smoke alarms for Orange Park residents and share crucial safety information. The SEG Gives Foundation will contribute $100,000, bringing the total donation to the Red Cross’s Home Fire Campaign to $300,000 over three years.
As a people-first company, SEG is committed to cultivating a culture of belonging and diversity. The grocer has received recognition for its efforts, including a 4-star rating on Newsweek’s 2024 America’s Greatest Workplaces for Diversity list and certification as a Great Place to Work® for the fourth consecutive year. SEG has also been acknowledged on Fortune’s Best Workplaces in Retail list and America’s Greatest Workplaces for Women, reflecting its commitment to supporting a diverse workforce and providing a superior work-life balance.
