Southeastern Grocers Strengthens Commitment to Fighting Hunger This Gratitude Month with $100,000 Donation and Community Initiatives
Southeastern Grocers, LLC (SEG), the parent company and home of Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket, is stepping up once again to support neighbors in need as the nation faces mounting food insecurity challenges. This Gratitude Month, SEG and its charitable arm, the SEG Gives Foundation, announced a $100,000 donation to Feeding America®. The contribution will help provide more than one million meals to individuals and families struggling with hunger—reinforcing the grocer’s unwavering commitment to empower, feed, and enrich the communities it serves across the Southeast.
A Purpose-Driven Effort to Tackle Hunger
The donation represents more than just a financial contribution—it’s a reflection of SEG’s deep-rooted sense of community and corporate responsibility. Starting November 1, Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket customers will also have the opportunity to join the cause through an in-store donation program. Shoppers can donate $1, $5, or round up their purchase totals at checkout, with 100% of proceeds going directly to Feeding America and its network of partner food banks.
The in-store campaign will help extend SEG’s impact by engaging customers in collective action to fight hunger locally. Every dollar donated supports essential hunger-relief efforts that bring food to families struggling to make ends meet, particularly during a time of increasing food costs and economic strain.
Anthony Hucker, Chairman and CEO of Southeastern Grocers, emphasized the importance of community and purpose in the company’s mission. “As a grocer, it’s our noble calling to feed communities—a simple, yet powerful responsibility we embrace with purpose and pride,” said Hucker. “Food is one of our most basic needs, but it’s also where connection happens. It’s how we gather, celebrate, and care for one another. For a century, we’ve stood shoulder to shoulder with our neighbors through moments of joy and hardship, and we stand with them now. As we recognize National Gratitude Month, we’re turning gratitude into purposeful action—ensuring families have food on their tables today and hope for tomorrow.”
A Growing Hunger Crisis
According to Feeding America, more than 47 million Americans—including one in five children—experience food insecurity. The situation is particularly severe in the southern United States, which represents less than half of all U.S. counties but accounts for a staggering 86% of counties with the highest rates of food insecurity. In these areas, at least one in five residents struggles to access sufficient food.
Local food banks across the South continue to experience unprecedented demand as they work to bridge the widening gap for families relying on these critical resources. This growing need underscores the vital importance of strong partnerships between businesses and nonprofit organizations to ensure families have consistent access to nutritious food.
Purpose in Action: Special Offers and Local Support
Beyond its donation and in-store fundraising campaign, Southeastern Grocers is introducing a range of initiatives throughout November to further support families and communities in need.
1. Nourishing Families with Affordable Meals:
From November 5 through November 30, Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket customers enrolled in the Rewards program can take advantage of a Family Meal Deal designed to make hearty, home-style meals more affordable. For just $14.99—regularly priced up to $26.45—customers can choose from a 10-piece fried chicken, 10-piece baked chicken, or four leg quarters meal. Each comes with six biscuits and three SE Grocers prepackaged one-pound deli sides such as coleslaw, baked beans, macaroni salad, or potato salad.
This meal deal encourages families to gather around the dinner table while keeping costs manageable during challenging economic times. To qualify for the discount, all five items must be purchased in a single transaction by a Winn-Dixie or Harveys Supermarket Rewards member, with a limit of one deal per transaction.
2. Supporting SNAP Recipients with Free Delivery:
Recognizing the importance of accessibility and convenience, SEG is extending additional support to families who rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Throughout November, SNAP recipients shopping online with Winn-Dixie via DoorDash can receive free delivery and no service fees. The offer is valid from November 1 to November 30 and can be used once per customer, helping families stretch their grocery budgets while ensuring access to essential food items.
3. Empowering Local Giving:
To amplify its impact at the local level, SEG will provide each Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket with a $500 store credit to be donated in products or gift cards to local hunger-relief organizations. This initiative allows individual stores to choose the organizations that best serve their communities—ensuring that support reaches those who need it most. These small, localized acts of generosity collectively create meaningful, long-term impact across hundreds of neighborhoods in the Southeast.
A Legacy of Compassion and Community Partnership
Southeastern Grocers’ latest initiative builds upon a long-standing tradition of giving back and supporting hunger-relief efforts. Earlier this year, Winn-Dixie donated $100,000 to five Boys & Girls Clubs chapters throughout the Southeast, providing nutritious meals, snacks, and take-home food packages for children and families.
In September, during Hunger Action Month®, SEG deepened its commitment to fighting hunger with a combined $200,000 contribution—splitting $100,000 in direct donations to Feeding America and an additional $100,000 in product donations to seven of its partner food banks.
The SEG Gives Foundation has also continued to expand its outreach through its annual Romay Davis Belonging, Inclusion and Diversity Grant program. Most recently, the foundation awarded $400,000 in 2025 grants to 40 nonprofit organizations working to combat hunger and promote inclusivity across the region. Recipients included Boys & Girls Clubs, Brighter Bites, Concrete Jungle, The Soup Kitchen, and Our Daily Bread Food Pantry—each dedicated to feeding children and families in need.
Building Hope, One Community at a Time
For Southeastern Grocers, these initiatives are not just seasonal acts of charity—they represent an ongoing mission to create a sustainable, hunger-free future. The company’s approach integrates immediate relief efforts with long-term partnerships that strengthen local food systems and empower communities to thrive.
As Gratitude Month unfolds, SEG’s message is clear: gratitude is most powerful when it fuels action. By combining corporate giving, customer engagement, and employee-led community service, the grocer continues to embody its core purpose—to empower, feed, and enrich the lives of its neighbors.
Inside every Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket, and throughout the towns and cities they serve, Southeastern Grocers continues to lead with compassion and purpose. From donating millions of meals to supporting food banks and empowering local organizations, SEG remains steadfast in its belief that when communities come together, even the smallest acts of kindness can make a lasting difference.
Through its ongoing partnership with Feeding America and local food banks, SEG is ensuring that this Gratitude Month—and every month after—families across the Southeast have access to food, hope, and the opportunity to thrive.
