State Grid Zhenjiang Power Supply Company recently sent staff to the grape sorting center in Dingzhuang Village, Maoshan Town, to inspect the power supply for two automated sorting lines and cold storage compressors. The goal is to support the growth and development of the local grape industry.
Dingzhuang Village, known as the “Hometown of Grapes in China,” is the largest fresh grape production base in Jiangsu Province. Over the past 34 years, the village has developed 52 grape varieties, including “Kyoho,” “Summer Black,” and “Shine Muscat.” Its cultivation area has expanded from just two mu (0.13 hectares) to 20,000 mu (1,333 hectares), producing over 20,000 tons of grapes annually. Dingzhuang’s grapes are sold in more than 2,000 supermarkets across China and have entered high-end markets in Southeast Asia.
As e-commerce has grown rapidly in recent years, Dingzhuang’s grape industry has enhanced its online sales system. In 2022, a new grape sorting center was built, featuring a 1,600-cubic-meter cold storage facility and four additional refrigeration units. In August 2023, five more chillers were installed, increasing power consumption by 100 kW. The local power supply company responded by providing tailored electrical solutions, assisting with online applications for business expansion, and fast-tracking the installation of a new 400 kVA transformer within just 18 days—30 days faster than the usual process. This timely support has boosted the village’s economy and helped Dingzhuang grapes reach international markets.
