Comedian Trey Kennedy brings his signature Midwest humor from the stage to the wine aisle with the launch of Basic Cellars. Partnered with Animal Capital, In Good Taste, and Top Shelf Ventures, Basic Cellars offers approachable, high-quality wines in single-serving glass bottles that make wine-drinking fun and accessible.
Starting October 25th, Basic Cellars will be available online across the U.S. with two varieties: Basic Red, a California Pinot Noir featuring notes of cherry, raspberry, and sweet vanilla, and Basic White, an Italian wine from Sicily with hints of melon, citrus, and Mediterranean herbs. These wines offer a refreshingly relaxed alternative to traditional wine brands—simple, delicious, and perfect for any occasion.
Kennedy, with over 13 million followers and 225,000 tour tickets sold, wanted to create a wine that’s as unpretentious as his comedy. “Wine should be fun, not complicated,” he said. “Buying wine can feel overly boujee. I wanted a wine that’s just about enjoying it, not making it complicated, just like my comedy.”
Marshall Sandman, Managing Partner at Animal Capital, echoed Kennedy’s vision. “Working with Trey on Basic Cellars has been incredible,” Sandman said. “Trey connects with his audience in a real, unfiltered way, and together we’ve created a product that makes enjoying wine truly inclusive.”
In Good Taste co-founder Joe Welch added that Basic Cellars is all about quality without the pretense. “We’re thrilled to bring Basic Cellars to life with wines that are just great—simple, flavorful, and packaged for convenience, making it easier than ever to enjoy a great glass of wine.”
With industry support from veterans like Rich Pascucci of Black Apple Group and Ben Reilley, Basic Cellars is positioned as a fresh, approachable take on the wine market. As Kennedy puts it, “Life doesn’t always have to be taken so seriously. Sometimes, keeping things Basic is best.”
