Pivot Bio, one of the world’s leading agricultural technology companies focused on sustainable crop nutrition, has announced a new initiative to support farmers during the upcoming spring planting season. The company revealed that it has once again lowered the prices of its nitrogen-fixing products while simultaneously increasing production capacity. This move is aimed at helping U.S. farmers secure affordable crop nutrition solutions as global nitrogen fertilizer prices continue to surge and supply remains highly volatile.
The decision comes at a time when agricultural producers are facing mounting pressure from rising input costs and uncertain fertilizer availability. Nitrogen, one of the most essential nutrients for crop growth, has experienced dramatic price spikes in global markets due to supply chain disruptions, geopolitical tensions, and increased demand from major agricultural regions. These factors have created significant challenges for farmers who depend on stable nitrogen supplies to achieve optimal yields.
Chris Abbott, Chief Executive Officer of Pivot Bio, emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting growers during this critical period. According to Abbott, farmers are currently navigating some of the most difficult market conditions in recent years, making it essential for agricultural technology providers to prioritize farmer needs.
“Farmers are under immense pressure, and our role is to stand alongside them as they prepare for spring planting,” Abbott said. “We have made the decision to lower our prices, rather than raise them, out of respect for the growers who rely on our products and need our support now more than ever.”
Abbott also highlighted the extreme volatility affecting the global fertilizer market. Over the past several months, nitrogen fertilizer prices have fluctuated dramatically due to tightening supplies and disruptions in international trade flows. In recent days, these prices have surged even further, creating additional challenges for farmers who are preparing to plant their crops for the upcoming season.
“The global fertilizer market has become increasingly unstable,” Abbott explained. “We are seeing an unprecedented supply challenge at the exact moment when farmers need reliable access to nitrogen. Prices have climbed sharply in just the last few days, and supply across the global market is under significant strain.”
One of the key advantages Pivot Bio offers farmers is its domestically produced nitrogen solutions. Unlike conventional synthetic fertilizers that rely heavily on global supply chains and energy-intensive manufacturing processes, Pivot Bio’s nitrogen-fixing technologies are developed and produced within the United States. This localized production network allows the company to respond quickly to farmer demand and deliver products efficiently.
Through its domestic supply chain infrastructure, Pivot Bio can ship nitrogen solutions to farmers within 24 hours, ensuring growers have rapid access to the nutrients required to support crop growth during the critical early stages of the planting season.
“As farmers across the country prepare to plant their crops, we are doing our part to make sure they have access to a low-cost and dependable nitrogen source,” Abbott added. “Our goal is to provide growers with a reliable alternative that helps them maintain productivity even in a challenging fertilizer market.”
To further support farmers, Pivot Bio has expanded production at its manufacturing facility in St. Louis, Missouri. The facility has implemented measures to increase output and ensure sufficient supply of the company’s microbial nitrogen products during the peak planting season.
Travis Frey, Ph.D., Chief Technology Officer at Pivot Bio, said the increased production capacity will help ensure that American farmers have access to a stable and cost-effective nitrogen solution that can help maintain crop performance even amid global market disruptions.
“We are well positioned to support the nitrogen needs of American farmers,” Frey said. “Our products provide a more stable, domestically produced nitrogen source that helps drive crop performance while reducing dependence on traditional synthetic fertilizers.”
Pivot Bio’s technology works by harnessing naturally occurring soil microbes that deliver nitrogen directly to plant roots throughout the growing season. Unlike synthetic fertilizers that release nutrients in large bursts and may be lost through leaching or volatilization, Pivot Bio’s microbial solutions provide a continuous and controlled supply of nitrogen as the plant grows.
Frey explained that farmers can think of Pivot Bio’s products as an in-season nitrogen engine that supports their crop nutrition programs from the early stages of development through key growth periods.
“By delivering nitrogen directly to the root zone early in the season—when plants need it the most—our technology helps maximize yield potential,” Frey noted. “When combined with best management practices, growers can increase productivity while reducing overall fertilizer costs.”
The company’s latest production expansion reflects its broader commitment to providing farmers with dependable nitrogen solutions during a time of heightened uncertainty in global fertilizer markets. As volatility continues to affect supply and pricing, Pivot Bio aims to offer growers a consistent alternative that is less vulnerable to external disruptions.
Innovation remains a central component of the company’s growth strategy. In 2025, Pivot Bio introduced four new products—marking the largest number of product launches in the company’s 15-year history. These products are designed to address the nitrogen needs of a wider range of crops and farming systems.
Among the new offerings is PROVEN® G3, an advanced nitrogen-fixing solution designed specifically for corn production. The company also introduced CERT-N™ for cotton growers, RETAIN™ for grain sorghum, and a new dry formulation that allows for easier application across multiple crop types.
Extensive field trials have demonstrated the performance benefits of these products. In a series of 134 trials conducted with 129 growers across the United States, farmers using PROVEN® G3 were able to replace an average of 33 pounds of synthetic nitrogen per acre while achieving improved yields.
The trials showed that growers experienced an average yield advantage of 2.1 bushels per acre compared with their standard fertilization practices. These results highlight the potential for microbial nitrogen technology to supplement or partially replace traditional fertilizers without sacrificing crop performance.
Even under varying weather patterns and soil conditions, the product delivered strong results. According to the company, win rates in these trials exceeded 90 percent, demonstrating consistent performance across diverse agricultural environments.
The strong results are attributed to the product’s ability to deliver nitrogen precisely where it is needed—directly at the plant root during the most critical stages of crop development. This targeted nutrient delivery helps support plant health and maximize yield potential while reducing reliance on synthetic fertilizers.
Pivot Bio has also reported promising results for cotton growers using its CERT-N™ product. Field trials conducted during the 2024 and 2025 growing seasons covered more than 30,000 acres of cotton farmland.
Farmers participating in these trials replaced up to 20 percent of their synthetic nitrogen fertilizer with CERT-N™ while still achieving improved crop performance. On average, growers experienced lint yield increases of more than 50 pounds per acre.
These gains translated into economic returns exceeding $30 per acre, a significant achievement for the first year of a new agricultural product being deployed at large scale. The results demonstrate the potential value of microbial nitrogen technology in helping farmers improve profitability while reducing fertilizer costs.
As the agricultural industry continues to face rising input costs and unpredictable supply conditions, solutions that improve efficiency and resilience are becoming increasingly important. Pivot Bio believes its microbial nitrogen products can play a key role in helping farmers adapt to these evolving challenges.
By lowering product prices, expanding production, and continuing to invest in research and innovation, the company aims to strengthen its support for farmers during one of the most critical periods of the growing season.
With planting season rapidly approaching, Pivot Bio’s expanded manufacturing capacity and domestic distribution network are expected to play an important role in ensuring growers have timely access to the nitrogen solutions they need to achieve strong crop yields and maintain farm profitability.
