The company, a fixture on the list since 1996, continues to demonstrate its commitment to community, associates, and overall excellence.
Maria Brous, Publix Director of Communications, emphasized the company’s dedication to community support and fostering a workplace culture centered on care and respect for associates. Brous stated, “At Publix, we pride ourselves in helping our communities and establishing a culture where we care for and respect our associates. We’re honored to be named by Fortune as one of the most admired companies in the world.”
Publix’s commitment to its associates is evident through various initiatives, including company ownership opportunities and a promote-from-within ethos. Recognizing the importance of retaining top talent, the company recently bolstered its commitment to associates by enhancing paid time off benefits.
The company’s philanthropic endeavors extend to addressing hunger, a focal point of Publix’s charitable activities. Through a biannual hunger-alleviation campaign, customers contribute at the register to supply essential food items to local food banks. Publix also made a significant impact in 2023 by purchasing and donating $10 million worth of fresh produce to Feeding America partner food banks. The combined efforts of customers and the company raised nearly $23 million to combat food insecurity.
In addition to its social initiatives, Publix actively contributes to environmental conservation. Collaborating with the Arbor Day Foundation, the company directs a portion of proceeds from reusable bag sales to tree-planting projects. Publix’s two-year effort resulted in the planting of 430,000 trees in the Econfina Creek forest ecosystem, which was ravaged by Hurricane Michael in 2018. In 2023, the company celebrated the milestone of planting its millionth tree, contributing to habitat restoration for wildlife and reducing water runoff.
