Global Dairy Expansion Accenture Supports Sodiaal’s Yoplait Liberté Canada Integration

Sodiaal, France’s leading farmer-owned dairy cooperative, has completed a major technology integration program with Accenture, marking an important milestone in the cooperative’s international expansion strategy. The project followed Sodiaal’s acquisition of the Yoplait Liberté Canada business from General Mills and involved migrating the Canadian operations onto the SAP platform already used across Yoplait’s European activities.

Completed in June 2026, the integration represents one of the largest information technology transformation projects undertaken in Sodiaal’s history. The initiative was designed to bring the newly acquired Canadian business into a unified operating environment while establishing the technology infrastructure required to support the cooperative’s continued growth in international markets.

The project combined SAP implementation expertise, dairy and food industry knowledge, and cross-border collaboration between Accenture teams in Paris and Montréal. By moving the Canadian entity onto Yoplait’s existing European SAP platform, Sodiaal and Accenture worked to harmonize business processes, improve operational consistency and establish a common technology foundation for the expanded organization.

Supporting Sodiaal’s International Expansion

Sodiaal is owned by approximately 13,900 farmer-members and represents around 20% of France’s total milk collection. Unlike many traditional corporate dairy businesses, the cooperative model places its farmer-members at the center of the organization, with producers collectively owning the business and the brands associated with their dairy products.

Its portfolio includes well-known brands such as Yoplait and Liberté, giving Sodiaal a significant presence across the dairy sector. The acquisition of the Yoplait Liberté Canada business represents the cooperative’s largest international growth transaction to date and strengthens its position in the Canadian dairy market.

The transaction also supports Sodiaal’s broader strategy of expanding its international activities. Approximately 25% of the cooperative’s business is already generated internationally, with operations and commercial activities extending across more than 40 countries.

For an organization operating across multiple geographic markets, integrating newly acquired businesses into common technology systems can be an important step toward improving coordination and creating a consistent operating model. The Canadian integration was therefore not simply a software migration but part of a wider effort to establish a more unified international organization.

Migrating Canada to the European SAP Platform

At the heart of the project was the deployment of the SAP platform already supporting Yoplait’s European operations within the Canadian business.

The approach enabled the newly acquired entity to adopt established technology infrastructure and business processes rather than operating through a separate, standalone system. This created a common platform intended to support greater consistency across Yoplait’s international activities.

Accenture worked with Sodiaal to define and implement an integration approach suited to the newly consolidated organization. The program addressed the technology and operational requirements associated with bringing the Canadian business into Sodiaal’s wider environment.

Harmonizing core processes was a central component of the transformation. A common SAP environment can provide organizations with a standardized framework for managing key business activities while improving the flow and consistency of information between different parts of an organization.

For Sodiaal, the integration provides the technological foundation for operating the Canadian business as an integrated component of the broader Yoplait organization.

Cross-Border Collaboration

The scale and international nature of the project required close collaboration across different locations. Accenture brought together teams in Paris and Montréal to combine global technology capabilities with knowledge of the Canadian market.

The collaboration was particularly important because the project involved integrating a Canadian dairy business into a platform and operating environment established across European activities.

The teams needed to address both the requirements of the wider Sodiaal organization and the specific characteristics of the Canadian market. This combination of global delivery capabilities and local expertise helped support the implementation process and the transition toward a unified operating model.

The project also illustrates the growing importance of technology integration following international mergers and acquisitions. When companies expand through acquisitions, establishing compatible technology systems can help organizations align processes and operations while reducing fragmentation across business units.

Technology as a Foundation for Future Growth

For Sodiaal, the completion of the Canadian integration provides more than an immediate technology upgrade. The project creates a foundation that can potentially be replicated as the cooperative continues to expand internationally.

With activities spanning more than 40 countries, Sodiaal operates in a complex international environment. A consistent technology architecture can support the organization as it manages different businesses and markets while seeking greater operational alignment.

The completed program is therefore expected to serve as a model for future integration initiatives. By establishing a structured approach for incorporating acquired businesses into existing technology platforms, Sodiaal can build on the experience gained through the Canadian project as it pursues additional international opportunities.

Myriam Riedel Kienzi, DG Yoplait International and a member of Sodiaal’s Executive Committee, described the acquisition of Yoplait and Liberté’s Canadian yogurt business as the most significant step in Sodiaal’s international development to date.

She emphasized that the scale of the transaction required a partner capable of working quickly across borders while understanding both the cooperative’s specific requirements and the characteristics of the dairy markets in which it operates.

According to Riedel Kienzi, Accenture’s involvement helped Sodiaal establish the technology foundation required to operate the Canadian business as a fully integrated part of the Yoplait organization within the Sodiaal group.

Combining SAP and Food Industry Expertise

Accenture’s role extended beyond the technical implementation of the SAP platform. The project brought together its SAP capabilities with experience in the consumer goods and food and beverage sectors.

Stéphanie Jandard, managing director and Consumer Goods & Services Lead for Accenture France & Belux, said the transformation was designed to achieve more than a technology integration.

The objective was to enable the strategic acquisition to become an integrated business operating through common processes and a unified technology platform.

The collaboration between Accenture’s Paris and Montréal teams was particularly significant in addressing the project’s international requirements. By combining industry knowledge with technology expertise, the teams supported Sodiaal in establishing the systems needed to integrate the Canadian business into its wider operations.

Strengthening the Yoplait Platform

The completion of the project in June 2026 marks an important stage in the development of Sodiaal’s international dairy operations. The integration brings Yoplait Liberté Canada onto a shared SAP environment and supports greater alignment between the Canadian business and Yoplait’s European operations.

The project also demonstrates how technology infrastructure can play a central role in post-acquisition integration. Rather than treating technology as a separate operational function, Sodiaal incorporated the IT transformation into the broader integration of its newly acquired business.

For Yoplait and Sodiaal, the unified platform provides a basis for continued operational development in Canada while supporting the cooperative’s broader international strategy.

As Sodiaal continues to expand its activities beyond France, the experience gained from the Yoplait Liberté Canada integration could provide a valuable framework for future international transactions. A repeatable technology integration model may help the cooperative bring additional businesses into its operating environment more efficiently.

The successful completion of the program ultimately connects Sodiaal’s international growth strategy with a standardized digital infrastructure. With its Canadian dairy operations now integrated into Yoplait’s European SAP platform, the cooperative has strengthened the technology foundation supporting its global dairy business and future expansion plans.
