Anaergia and TisVet Sign C$36 Million Agreement for Agricultural Waste-to-Energy Project in Hungary

Anaergia and TisVet Sign C$36 Million Agreement for Agricultural Waste-to-Energy Project in Hungary

Anaergia Inc. has entered into an agreement with TisVet Kft, one of Hungary’s major duck and poultry producers, to provide technology and engineering services for a new anaerobic digestion facility designed to convert agricultural waste into renewable energy. The project represents an important step in expanding sustainable waste management and renewable energy generation within Hungary’s agricultural sector.

Anaergia, which operates through its subsidiary Anaergia Srl for this project, said the agreement will support the development of a large-scale anaerobic digestion plant in Hungary. The company is listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol ANRG and trades on the OTCQX market under ANRGF. The agreement remains subject to the satisfaction of certain conditions precedent that have been agreed upon by Anaergia and TisVet.

The planned facility is expected to become one of the significant agricultural waste-to-energy projects associated with Hungary’s emerging support framework for anaerobic digestion. For Anaergia, the development also marks the company’s first major project in Hungary in more than a decade, expanding its involvement in the country and strengthening its focus on technologies that can transform organic waste into useful energy and other valuable outputs.

Large-Scale Agricultural Waste Processing

According to the project plans, the new anaerobic digestion facility is expected to process approximately 122,000 tonnes of agricultural waste annually. The material will be treated through an anaerobic digestion process designed to recover energy from organic residues.

Anaerobic digestion is a biological process in which microorganisms break down organic material in an oxygen-free environment. The process produces biogas, which can subsequently be used to generate renewable electricity. It also provides an alternative pathway for managing agricultural residues that might otherwise require conventional disposal or treatment.

The planned Hungarian facility is expected to produce approximately 5 megawatts of electric energy. This electricity generation capacity will allow agricultural waste generated through poultry production and related activities to be converted into a useful energy resource.

Anaergia is expected to supply several of its proprietary technologies as part of the project. These are anticipated to include a specialized feeding system, mixing technologies and dewatering equipment. Together, these systems are intended to support the efficient handling, processing and treatment of agricultural waste throughout the facility.

Technology to Support Circular Agriculture

The project reflects the growing interest in circular approaches to agriculture, in which waste streams are treated as potential resources rather than simply materials requiring disposal. By processing agricultural residues through anaerobic digestion, the facility is expected to recover energy while supporting more sustainable management of organic waste.

For poultry producers, managing large volumes of agricultural residues can be an important operational and environmental consideration. A dedicated anaerobic digestion facility can provide an integrated approach to handling these materials while creating renewable energy from the organic content.

Anaergia has developed technologies focused on recovering resources from organic waste and wastewater streams. Its involvement in the Hungarian project will allow these technologies to be applied to a large agricultural waste stream generated in connection with poultry production.

The project is also expected to contribute to Hungary’s broader efforts to expand anaerobic digestion infrastructure. The facility is among the early projects being developed under a new government-supported scheme aimed at encouraging the construction and operation of anaerobic digestion facilities.

C$36 Million Agreement

The agreement is expected to generate approximately C$36 million in revenue for Anaergia. The financial value represents a significant project opportunity for the company and further expands its presence in the European renewable energy and agricultural waste management markets.

The facility is currently expected to become fully operational during the second half of 2028. Once operational, it is projected to process the planned 122,000 tonnes of agricultural waste each year and generate approximately 5 MW of electricity.

The development timeline will depend on the completion of the conditions established between Anaergia and TisVet, as well as the various stages required to develop, construct and commission the facility.

Supporting Sustainable Poultry Production

TisVet is a major producer of ducks and other poultry in Hungary. For the company, the partnership with Anaergia provides an opportunity to integrate advanced waste treatment and renewable energy technology into its agricultural operations.

László Zsemberi, Development Manager of TisVet, said the project represents an important development for agricultural waste management in Hungary. He highlighted the role of Anaergia’s technology in converting agricultural residues into clean energy while supporting the long-term sustainability of poultry production.

The project is therefore positioned not only as an energy-generation initiative but also as part of a broader strategy for improving resource efficiency within the agricultural sector. Turning agricultural residues into renewable power can create an additional value stream while reducing the reliance on conventional approaches to waste management.

Anaergia Expands Hungarian Activities

For Anaergia, the project marks a renewed presence in Hungary following a period of more than 10 years without a major project in the country. The company views its partnership with TisVet as an opportunity to deploy its anaerobic digestion technologies in a market where government support is being introduced to encourage new facilities.

Anaergia Chief Executive Officer Assaf Onn said the company was pleased to collaborate with TisVet and participate in one of the first projects being developed under Hungary’s new government-supported anaerobic digestion scheme.

According to Onn, the project demonstrates how the company’s technology can be used to convert agricultural residues into renewable electricity. He also emphasized its connection to the circular economy and its potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The project is expected to demonstrate how agricultural waste can be incorporated into a more resource-efficient production model. Instead of treating agricultural residues solely as waste, anaerobic digestion allows organic material to become a feedstock for renewable energy production.

Advancing Renewable Energy and Waste Management

The planned facility highlights the connection between agriculture, waste management and renewable energy. With the ability to process 122,000 tonnes of agricultural waste each year, the project is expected to create a substantial pathway for recovering energy from organic residues.

Its anticipated 5 MW electricity output will add renewable power generation capacity while the use of Anaergia’s proprietary feeding, mixing and dewatering technologies is expected to support the plant’s processing operations.

As Hungary develops its anaerobic digestion sector through new government-backed support mechanisms, projects such as the TisVet facility could contribute to the expansion of agricultural waste-to-energy infrastructure.

For TisVet, the project provides a pathway toward more sustainable management of agricultural residues. For Anaergia, it represents a major return to the Hungarian market and a C$36 million technology and engineering opportunity.

Subject to the completion of the agreed conditions, construction and development activities will progress toward the planned operational target in the second half of 2028. Once completed, the facility is expected to combine agricultural waste treatment with renewable electricity generation, supporting Hungary’s efforts to advance circular resource management and expand renewable energy solutions within its agricultural industry.
