Today, DoorDash is thrilled to announce the expansion of safe and responsible alcohol delivery from select retailers including Food Lion, Hannaford, Giant Food, MARTIN’S, Stop & Shop, Buy Rite Liquors, Big Red Liquors, and all locations of Spirits Unlimited and Stew Leonard’s Wines and Spirits. Alongside this, DoorDash is introducing a suite of advertising solutions designed to help brands better connect with consumers seeking to purchase and enjoy alcohol safely and responsibly.
“From America’s most popular brands to rare microbrews, fine wines, and imported spirits, we’re excited to offer a diverse selection for on-demand alcohol delivery,” said Fuad Hannon, VP of New Verticals. “In 2023, the number of liquor stores available on DoorDash in the US increased by more than 60%. Currently, DoorDash leads the US market in third-party liquor store delivery sales. As consumers enjoy local offerings conveniently and safely, local merchants are growing their businesses, and Dashers have more earning opportunities.”
As DoorDash continues to invest in enhancing our retail media solutions, the new features will enable brands to grow alongside evolving consumer behavior.
Sponsored Products for Alcohol: Brands can now reach high-intent customers at the point of purchase with sponsored products, available on our Ads Manager UI and through API partners Flywheel and Pacvue. Early partners like Anheuser-Busch, Molson Coors, Mark Anthony Brands, and Pernod Ricard are already seeing a sales boost from this feature.
Occasion Branded Campaigns: Engage with consumers during key moments such as the Super Bowl, St. Patrick’s Day, and Cinco de Mayo to drive awareness and conversions.
Sponsored Brands for Alcohol: Brands can now increase awareness and consideration with new high-impact carousels that combine brand assets with a shoppable selection of products, akin to an in-store end cap. This feature will be widely available later this month.
Partnership with MikMak: Brands can now reach DoorDash’s millions of active global users across all channels, including brand websites, social media, QR codes, and video, with detailed insights into shopper behaviors and attributable sales.
Partnership with Symbiosys.AI: Utilizing advanced targeting and optimization algorithms, brands can now reach new audiences on offsite advertising channels like search, social, and display, with conversion and ROI reporting to measure effectiveness.
“Consumers have more options than ever for safe and responsible alcohol delivery. On DoorDash, brands find new opportunities to connect with high-intent customers throughout their purchasing journey,” said Toby Espinosa, VP of Ads. “Besides buying alcohol at restaurants or bars, the preferred method for purchasing alcohol is through an app for same-day delivery. We’re excited to offer more tools and services to help our partners grow while ensuring consumers can safely discover and engage with relevant brands and products for every occasion.”
Since the launch of alcohol delivery in 2021, DoorDash’s on-demand alcohol delivery has grown rapidly. Consumers can choose from over 100,000 alcoholic beverages across thousands of stores in 32 states, as well as the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. New merchants join existing partners like Total Wine & More, Walgreens, Spec’s Wine, Spirits & Finer Foods, ABC Fine Wine & Spirits, and Duane Reade.
The 2024 Restaurant and Alcohol Online Ordering Trends Report, featuring proprietary DoorDash data and insights from a survey of US consumers, highlights that comfort, time-savings, and convenience remain the key factors in ordering alcohol online. 73% of consumers report using third-party apps for online alcohol orders, and 89% say they use alcohol delivery services as much or more than last year. The data aligns with the observed 54% year-over-year increase in alcohol pickup and delivery orders on DoorDash Marketplace.
As alcohol delivery continues to grow, DoorDash remains committed to ensuring a safe delivery experience for consumers, Dashers, and partners with industry-leading safety features. Learn more about our safety measures for alcohol deliveries here.
