McCormick Awards Scholarships to Student Unsung Heroes”
McCormick & Company, Incorporated (NYSE: MKC), a leading global flavor company, recently honored Alivia White from Patapsco High School and Akintomiwa David Are from Owings Mills High School with the prestigious Charles Perry McCormick scholarships. These scholarships, valued at $40,000 over four years, were presented to Ms. White and Mr. Are at a special event held at the M&T Bank Exchange within Baltimore’s France-Merrick Performing Arts Center. The event featured a keynote speech by Kyle Hamilton, Safety for the Baltimore Ravens, who engaged in a lively on-stage discussion moderated by sports radio personality Scott Garceau. Hamilton shared his personal journey as an Unsung Hero in high school, underscoring the value of perseverance and commitment in sports.
Alivia White, a standout member of Patapsco High School’s women’s basketball team, was praised for her leadership both on and off the court. Despite being told she was an undersized Center, White excelled in rebounds and assists while extending kindness beyond her team, supporting a fellow student in need.
Similarly, Akintomiwa David Are of Owings Mills High School displayed remarkable selflessness by tutoring freshmen students and willingly changing positions on the football team to benefit the group’s overall performance.
Four additional students were recognized with scholarships at the Unsung Heroes event: Jadah Reid and Bernard Bolden IV received $7,500 each, while Brooke Frederick and Maurice Ghee were awarded $5,000 each. These deserving recipients exemplify the program’s ethos of celebrating unheralded contributions to school success.
The Unsung Heroes initiative, founded in 1940 by former McCormick & Company Chairman Charles P. McCormick Sr., reflects the company’s commitment to recognizing the profound impact of individuals who work behind the scenes for the greater good. Congratulations to all the 2024 Unsung Heroes
