PhosAgro Group has officially become a member of the Arab Fertilizer Association (AFA), marking a significant step forward in its global presence. The decision for PhosAgro to join the AFA was solidified during discussions between the company’s leadership and the Association at the sidelines of the Second Russia–Africa Summit held in July 2023.
Operating under the auspices of the Council of Arab Economic Unity, the AFA is a prominent consortium comprising 180 companies from 29 countries, including major players like OCP Group from Morocco, Ma’aden, and SABIC from Saudi Arabia, all pivotal in the global fertilizer production and supply chain.
The Arab region, represented by AFA members, holds substantial sway in the global fertilizer landscape, contributing approximately 68% of the world’s triple superphosphate production, 50% of its trade, 37% of diammonium phosphate production, about 70% of global phosphate rock trade, and 41% of global urea trade.
PhosAgro’s inclusion in the AFA marks a milestone as the first representative from the Russian mineral fertilizer industry to join the organization.
Commenting on this development, PhosAgro CEO Mikhail Rybnikov expressed alignment with the AFA’s mission of coordinating efforts to ensure global food security through sustainable agricultural practices. Rybnikov highlighted the significance of PhosAgro’s participation in the Association’s committees and working groups, emphasizing the opportunity for the company’s experts to engage in discussions surrounding the international agenda on sustainable fertilizer use and food security, while also fostering the exchange of industry best practices among peers.
