The alliance brings together three organizations with complementary strengths: Tractor Supply Company, the largest rural lifestyle retailer in the United States; Starlink, the satellite internet service developed by SpaceX; and 4-H, the nation’s largest youth development organization operated through the Cooperative Extension system.

The initiative is centered on addressing one of the most persistent infrastructure gaps in the United States—the digital divide between rural and urban communities. Despite improvements in recent years, broadband access in rural areas continues to lag significantly behind urban regions. Federal data indicates that more than one-fifth of rural Americans still lack access to standard high-speed internet, compared with a very small fraction of urban residents. This disparity has wide-ranging consequences, affecting education, healthcare access, employment opportunities, and economic mobility.

At the core of the partnership is a multi-pronged approach that combines technology deployment, retail distribution, and youth program funding. Each partner plays a distinct role in scaling impact across rural communities.

Starlink, a division of the aerospace company SpaceX, will contribute 100 Starlink satellite internet kits along with service access to selected 4-H clubs operating in rural areas. These installations are intended to provide immediate high-speed connectivity to youth programs that often struggle with limited or unreliable broadband infrastructure. By enabling consistent internet access, 4-H clubs will be better equipped to deliver STEM-based learning modules, digital skills training, and virtual educational programming that prepares young people for modern workforce demands.

In addition to equipment donations, Starlink will extend its contribution through a recurring funding mechanism tied to consumer purchases. For eligible Starlink kits purchased through Tractor Supply Company stores and its online platform, Starlink will donate the value of the customer’s first month of subscription service directly to the National 4-H Council, a nonprofit organization that supports and funds 4-H programs nationwide. This structure is designed to generate ongoing financial support for youth development initiatives while encouraging broader adoption of satellite internet solutions in underserved regions.

Tractor Supply Company is also making a significant financial commitment to launch the initiative, pledging $500,000 to the National 4-H Council. This donation is intended to strengthen the foundation of the partnership and support local 4-H programming, especially in communities where access to digital tools remains limited. The company’s contribution reflects its long-standing involvement in rural development initiatives and its broader strategy of supporting infrastructure and educational access in the communities it serves.

The announcement was made during an event at the Great American State Fair, where key representatives from each organization were present. Among the attendees were U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins, Tractor Supply Company President and CEO Hal Lawton, National 4-H Council President and CEO Jill Bramble, and David Goldman, Vice President of Satellite Policy at SpaceX. The gathering underscored the growing national focus on rural connectivity and the importance of cross-sector partnerships in addressing infrastructure inequities.

Executives emphasized that the collaboration goes beyond technology deployment, positioning the initiative as a long-term investment in rural youth development. David Goldman of SpaceX highlighted the mission-driven aspect of Starlink’s role, noting that expanding connectivity to underserved areas remains central to the company’s objectives. He emphasized that improved internet access can directly enhance educational outcomes and expand opportunities for youth programs such as 4-H, which rely on digital tools for learning and collaboration.

Tractor Supply Company CEO Hal Lawton also underscored the importance of rural connectivity as a foundation for economic and community development. He pointed out that rural communities are vital to the nation’s agricultural and economic systems and stressed that reliable broadband is no longer a luxury but a necessity for participation in education, commerce, and healthcare. The company has previously taken steps to support connectivity, including offering free Wi-Fi in store parking lots to help rural residents access online services when needed.

The partnership also builds on an established relationship between Tractor Supply Company and 4-H. Since 2010, the retailer has worked with the National 4-H Council through its bi-annual Paper Clover fundraising campaign, which has raised more than $27 million to support youth programs across the United States. The new alliance expands this relationship by introducing a major technology component and integrating corporate funding with broadband access initiatives.

Jill Bramble, President and CEO of the National 4-H Council, emphasized that expanding digital access is critical to achieving the organization’s long-term goal of reaching 10 million young people by 2030.
