DoorDash, Walgreens Expand SNAP Access

DoorDash and Walgreens have joined forces to introduce a groundbreaking initiative aimed at enhancing access to essential goods for millions of Americans. Through this collaboration, nearly 7,800 Walgreens stores nationwide will now accept SNAP/EBT payments, marking a significant milestone in the realm of local commerce.

This partnership marks a pivotal moment as DoorDash becomes the premier platform enabling SNAP customers to utilize their benefits directly at Walgreens. Moreover, DoorDash is the inaugural third-party delivery service provider to integrate SNAP/EBT payments at a major drugstore chain on a national scale.

By incorporating Walgreens into its network, DoorDash effectively expands its reach, providing SNAP/EBT users with access to a broader selection of stores for on-demand delivery. This endeavor aligns with DoorDash’s mission to combat food insecurity by extending SNAP/EBT access to over 14 million individuals residing in food deserts and over 40 million people in communities where SNAP/EBT benefits are prevalent.

Fuad Hannon, VP of New Verticals at DoorDash, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, emphasizing its role in facilitating convenient access to essential food and pantry items for families and individuals nationwide. Since introducing support for SNAP/EBT payments in 2023, over 1.1 million consumers have availed themselves of this service, underscoring its importance in addressing critical needs.

In light of escalating prices on groceries and household essentials, consumers can now leverage their SNAP benefits to purchase eligible products from their local Walgreens via DoorDash. Walgreens will offer a diverse array of over 4,000 SNAP-eligible items for delivery within an hour, ranging from breakfast essentials to pantry staples.

Balachandra Visalatha, SVP and Chief Product Officer at Walgreens, highlighted the significance of this collaboration in simplifying the shopping experience for customers, particularly those facing barriers such as payment methods, work schedules, and transportation constraints. By partnering with DoorDash, Walgreens aims to ensure that shoppers can readily access essential grocery items whenever the need arises.

DoorDash’s commitment to enhancing food accessibility is further underscored by its initiative to offer SNAP/EBT consumers, who are not currently DashPass subscribers, a waiver of delivery fees on up to three orders paid with SNAP at Walgreens. Additionally, DashPass members can enjoy a plethora of benefits, including $0 delivery fees and reduced service fees on eligible orders, resulting in substantial savings.

This collaboration not only enhances convenience for consumers but also represents a significant step towards bridging the gap in access to essential goods across diverse communities. By enabling SNAP/EBT payments at all Walgreens locations nationwide, DoorDash and Walgreens are empowering individuals to meet their daily needs with greater ease and flexibility, irrespective of their geographical location.
