The Marzetti Company stated that Carter’s extensive operational expertise and strategic leadership experience make him well-positioned to help the business navigate an increasingly dynamic marketplace while supporting innovation and customer satisfaction.
Extensive Leadership Experience Across Major Consumer Brands
Prior to joining The Marzetti Company, Carter served as Chief Supply Chain Officer for Schwan’s, where he led supply chain operations across an extensive manufacturing network consisting of 18 production facilities. In that role, he was responsible for managing large-scale manufacturing operations, optimizing logistics and distribution systems, improving production efficiency, and ensuring consistent product quality across multiple categories.
His experience at Schwan’s further strengthened his expertise in managing complex supply chains while supporting business growth and operational performance.
Before joining Schwan’s, Carter spent 18 years with Unilever, one of the world’s largest consumer goods companies. During his tenure, he held numerous leadership positions with increasing responsibility across North America.
Among his most significant assignments were serving as Senior Vice President of Supply Chain for Unilever’s North American ice cream business, where he oversaw manufacturing and distribution operations supporting one of the company’s largest product categories. He also served as Head of Supply Chain Operations for Canada, leading cross-functional teams responsible for delivering efficient and reliable supply chain performance across the country.
Earlier in his professional career, Carter held positions focused on strategic planning and engineering, providing him with a strong technical foundation that has complemented his operational leadership throughout his career.
His combination of engineering expertise, strategic planning experience, and executive supply chain leadership has enabled him to successfully lead large organizations through operational transformation while driving continuous improvement initiatives.
Strong Educational Background Supports Leadership
Carter’s academic background complements his extensive professional experience. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University before completing a Master of Business Administration at the same institution.
The combination of engineering and business education has provided Carter with both the technical understanding and strategic management capabilities necessary to oversee modern manufacturing operations and increasingly sophisticated supply chain networks.

Supporting Marzetti’s Long-Term Growth Strategy
As Chief Supply Chain Officer, Carter will play a central role in supporting The Marzetti Company’s long-term growth strategy.
The food industry continues to experience rapid changes driven by shifting consumer preferences, evolving retail channels, supply chain disruptions, labor challenges, and increasing expectations for efficiency and sustainability. Companies across the sector are investing heavily in digital technologies, manufacturing modernization, automation, and supply chain optimization to remain competitive.
Marzetti’s leadership believes that strengthening its end-to-end supply chain capabilities will enable the company to better serve customers while supporting continued product innovation and business expansion.
By overseeing integrated supply chain functions, Carter will help ensure that the company can efficiently manage raw material sourcing, manufacturing capacity, inventory planning, transportation networks, and customer fulfillment while maintaining rigorous food safety and quality standards.
CEO Highlights Carter’s Operational Expertise
Dave Ciesinski, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Marzetti Company, welcomed Carter to the executive leadership team and emphasized the value of his extensive manufacturing and operational experience.
According to Ciesinski, Carter combines deep factory-based operational expertise with broad enterprise-level supply chain leadership, making him an excellent fit for the organization as it continues to simplify and strengthen its supply chain operations.
The CEO noted that over the past three years the company has made significant progress in streamlining its supply chain and improving operational productivity. Carter’s leadership is expected to build on those achievements while helping Marzetti continue executing its long-term strategic priorities.
Ciesinski expressed confidence that Carter’s experience leading complex manufacturing organizations and large-scale supply chain networks will further enhance the company’s operational capabilities and support sustainable growth.
Continuing Operational Transformation
Supply chain optimization has become an increasingly important competitive advantage within the food manufacturing industry. Companies are focusing on reducing operational complexity, improving forecasting accuracy, increasing production flexibility, and enhancing customer responsiveness.
For Marzetti, Carter’s appointment reflects an ongoing commitment to operational transformation rather than a change in strategic direction.
The company has already undertaken significant efforts to simplify its supply chain, improve manufacturing efficiency, and strengthen productivity across its operations. Carter is expected to continue advancing these initiatives while identifying additional opportunities for innovation and operational excellence.
His experience implementing supply chain improvements across multiple manufacturing sites is expected to support Marzetti’s continued efforts to improve service levels, reduce costs, and strengthen overall business performance.
Leadership Transition Following Distinguished Career
Carter succeeds Luis Viso, who joined The Marzetti Company as Chief Supply Chain Officer in 2023 and will retire later this year.
Viso leaves behind an accomplished career spanning 43 years in the food and beverage industry. During his tenure at Marzetti, he played an instrumental role in transforming the company’s supply chain organization and implementing improvements designed to position the business for future growth.
Under his leadership, Marzetti strengthened its operational capabilities, simplified key supply chain processes, and advanced initiatives focused on productivity, efficiency, and long-term resilience.
His contributions have helped establish a stronger operational foundation that will support the company’s continued expansion in the years ahead.
CEO Recognizes Viso’s Contributions
Ciesinski also expressed appreciation for Viso’s leadership and lasting impact on the organization.
He congratulated Viso on an outstanding 43-year career in the food and beverage industry and thanked him for the significant contributions he made during his time at Marzetti. According to Ciesinski, Viso’s leadership transformed the company’s supply chain operations and positioned the business for continued growth.
The transition represents both the conclusion of an accomplished leadership chapter and the beginning of a new phase as Carter assumes responsibility for guiding Marzetti’s evolving supply chain strategy.
Positioning for the Future
With Mark Carter joining the executive leadership team, The Marzetti Company is reinforcing its commitment to building a modern, resilient, and efficient supply chain capable of supporting future growth. His extensive experience leading large-scale manufacturing operations, combined with a proven record of operational excellence across leading consumer packaged goods companies, positions him to help Marzetti continue improving productivity, strengthening customer service, and maintaining the high standards of safety and quality that define the company’s operations.
As the company continues executing its long-term growth strategy, Carter’s leadership is expected to play a pivotal role in driving operational performance while ensuring Marzetti remains well-equipped to meet the changing needs of customers and consumers across its markets.
