AIB International, a globally recognized leader in food safety inspections, auditing, training, and consulting services, has announced the release of its 2027 Consolidated Standards for Inspection. The latest edition of the organization’s Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) framework is designed to help food, beverage, packaging, distribution, and ingredient facilities enhance their food safety systems, manage operational risks, and prepare for inspections beginning January 1, 2027.
For nearly seven decades, AIB International’s Consolidated Standards have served as a trusted resource for organizations across the global food supply chain. Since their introduction in 1956, the standards have helped companies establish effective food safety programs, improve manufacturing practices, and build stronger processes to protect products and consumers.
The newly released 2027 edition continues AIB International’s long-standing commitment to advancing food safety by providing practical, industry-focused guidance that supports continuous improvement and operational excellence. The updated standards reflect changes in regulations, advances in scientific understanding, emerging technologies, and evolving expectations across the food and beverage industry.
AIB International’s Consolidated Standards are widely used by manufacturers, processors, packaging companies, distributors, and ingredient suppliers around the world. The framework provides organizations with a structured approach to implementing Good Manufacturing Practices while supporting consistent food safety practices throughout the supply chain.
The 2027 release includes updated versions of all six AIB International Consolidated Standards. These cover a wide range of facility operations, including:
- Prerequisite & Food Safety Programs
- Beverage Manufacturing Facilities
- Distribution Centers
- Food Contact Packaging Facilities
- Non-Food Contact Packaging Facilities
- Grain Handling Facilities
Each standard has been updated to provide clearer expectations, improved organization, and guidance that reflects current industry conditions. While the fundamental GMP principles remain unchanged, the revised edition introduces updated terminology, enhanced explanations, and additional requirements aimed at helping organizations better understand and apply food safety practices within their operations.

“Food safety doesn’t end with a successful inspection—it begins with the daily practices that protect products, brands, and ultimately consumers,” said Aaron Edwards, President and CEO of AIB International. “For 70 years, the Consolidated Standards have helped elevate food safety across the global food supply chain. The 2027 edition builds on that legacy by helping organizations anticipate risk, strengthen their operations, adapt to evolving industry expectations, and protect consumer trust.”
The updated standards arrive at a time when food manufacturers and supply chain partners face increasing challenges, including changing regulations, complex global sourcing networks, technological advancements, and rising consumer expectations for transparency and quality. By providing a practical framework for identifying risks and improving processes, AIB International aims to help organizations remain prepared for these challenges.
The digital edition of the 2027 Consolidated Standards, along with English and Spanish Change Documents outlining key updates, became available on July 13, 2026. Organizations will have the remainder of 2026 to review the revised requirements and prepare for inspections conducted under the new edition, which will officially begin on January 1, 2027.
AIB International recommends that facilities use the transition period to evaluate their current food safety programs, update procedures and documentation, train employees, and conduct internal assessments to identify areas requiring improvement before the new standards take effect.
“Every revision of the Consolidated Standards is an opportunity to strengthen food safety practices and improve consistency across facilities,” said Bonnie Biegel, Quality Assurance Director at AIB International. “The 2027 edition provides clearer guidance, while the mid-year release gives organizations time to prepare for implementation in January 2027. Our training and implementation resources are designed to support a smooth transition.”
To help organizations successfully adopt the updated standards, AIB International has introduced the 2027 Consolidated Standards Resource Center. The platform provides access to a variety of implementation tools, including awareness training, technical consulting services, change documents, transition guidance, and additional educational resources.
New resources will continue to be added throughout 2026 to support companies as they move toward compliance with the updated requirements. Through these initiatives, AIB International is helping food industry professionals understand the changes, strengthen their food safety systems, and maintain high standards of quality and consumer protection.
As the global food industry continues to evolve, AIB International’s 2027 Consolidated Standards provide organizations with a roadmap for improving food safety performance, reducing risks, and creating more resilient supply chains. By combining decades of expertise with updated industry knowledge, the organization continues to support companies in delivering safe, high-quality products to consumers worldwide.
